Electrical Technician
Vessev
Posted about 15 hours ago
At Vessev, we’re defining a new category of marine transport: hydrofoiling electric vessels that are genuinely better for people and the planet. Our boats fly above the surface using advanced hydrofoils, control systems, and electric propulsion – designed and built here in Aotearoa.
With strong momentum, global growth, and major milestones ahead, we’re looking for an Electrical Technician to join the Electrical team. This is more than your typical electrical technician role — it’s a chance to directly shape the future of maritime transport.
The role
The Electrical team plays a vital role in bringing our vessels to life, delivering systems that bring each boat together as a complete, high-performance product. In this hands-on, full-time role, you'll be responsible for the fabrication, assembly and installation of electrical components that form an integral part of our high-performance vessels.
With everyone working out of the same facility, our boat production teams are tightly integrated with the design team. No two days look the same, and this role covers everything from mechanical assembly to process improvements and workspace management while remaining willing to take on additional responsibilities to support team objectives.
What you'll be doing
- Electrical assembly: Building electrical systems in accordance with design documentation and wiring schematics.
- Hardware installation: Fitting electrical hardware, brackets, supports, cables, harnesses and conductors to vessel structures.
- Termination & integration: Terminating cables, connectors and harnesses to ensure reliable and high-quality system integration.
- Testing & commissioning: Performing electrical testing, validation and commissioning of vessel hardware and systems.
- Fault diagnosis: Troubleshooting, diagnosing and repairing electrical faults and system issues.
- Quality assurance: Inspecting and validating electrical systems to meet Vessev’s exacting standards.
- Collaboration: Working closely with engineers, technicians and boat builders to improve build processes and manufacturing outcomes.
- Workplace standards: Maintaining a safe, organized and professional workshop environment.
About you
To thrive in this role, you will bring hands-on experience in electrical assembly, cable harnessing, testing and commissioning, along with the ability to interpret electrical schematics and build specifications accurately. You will have strong troubleshooting and fault-finding skills, a keen eye for detail, and a commitment to delivering high-quality workmanship.
You take pride in maintaining safe, clean and professional workshop practices, work collaboratively with others, and adapt effectively to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
We're looking for someone with
- Relevant electrical technician qualification.
- 4+ years’ direct experience in electrical work, marine electrical systems, avionics or a related industry.
- Experience working with various types of cables, harnesses and connectors.
- Proven experience with electrical testing, commissioning and fault diagnosis.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, wiring standards and workshop best practices.
- Ability to accurately interpret electrical schematics, work instructions and build specifications.
- Strong hand tool skills.
Bonus Experience
- Experience working in the marine industry.
- Previous work in a startup, technology or advanced manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of health & safety standards specific to electrical workshop operations.
- Passion for marine technology.
- Experience with prototype development, testing or commissioning activities.
