Manager, Metrology Engineering
T1 Energy
Posted about 4 hours ago
T1 Energy is bringing solar manufacturing back to the U.S. by building a domestic solar supply chain. Our mission is to invigorate America with scalable, reliable, and low-cost energy. Our fully operational 5GW solar module facility in Wilmer, Texas, can manufacture more than 20,000 modules every 24 hours. By the time you finish reading this paragraph, we will have produced two solar panels that will power American homes and fuel domestic AI. We're focused on building advanced American manufacturing and we're passionate about engineering a better future filled with abundant energy.
The Role
T1 Energy is looking to hire a Manager, Metrology Engineering to own measurement systems and data integrity at our G2 solar cell fab in Rockdale, Texas. This is a technical leadership role for an engineer who understands that in a high-volume fab, you can only control what you accurately measure, and who has the expertise in MSA, gauge R&R, and measurement system design to make sure every measurement we rely on is one we can trust.
You'll build and lead the metrology function from the ground up, establishing the measurement infrastructure and control frameworks that underpin process control, yield management, and quality across the entire fab.
What You'll Do
Own the metrology engineering function at the G2 solar cell fab, including in-line and off-line measurement systems across all process steps.
Design, implement, and maintain measurement system analysis (MSA) programs including gauge R&R studies to validate and ensure measurement system reliability.
Develop and manage metrology control plans aligned with process control requirements and quality specifications.
Partner with Process, Quality, and Equipment teams to integrate metrology data into SPC systems and process control workflow.
Lead qualification and calibration of metrology tools including film thickness, resistivity, surface inspection, and IV characterization systems.
Establish sampling strategies and measurement plans that balance control requirements with throughput.
Analyze metrology data to identify process trends, measurement system drift, and opportunities for improved process control.
Manage metrology tool vendor relationships and support tool procurement, installation, and qualification activities.
Develop and maintain metrology documentation including measurement plans, calibration records, and SOP libraries.
Lead and mentor a team of metrology engineers and technicians.
Who You Are
Deeply skilled in measurement systems analysis, gauge R&R, and the statistical frameworks that underpin metrology in a manufacturing environment.
Technically hands-on and comfortable working across a broad range of metrology tools and measurement techniques.
Detail-oriented and exacting — you understand that bad data is worse than no data, and you build systems accordingly.
A collaborative partner to process and quality engineering who translates measurement insights into actionable process improvements.
An effective technical leader who can develop junior engineers and build a high-performing metrology team.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related technical field.
7+ years of metrology engineering experience in a semiconductor, solar cell, or advanced manufacturing environment.
Deep expertise in measurement systems analysis (MSA) and gauge repeatability and reproducibility (gauge R&R) studies.
Hands-on experience with solar cell or semiconductor metrology tools including film thickness, sheet resistance, surface inspection, and electrical characterization systems.
Strong background in SPC and process control methodologies and their integration with metrology data.
Experience developing and executing calibration and metrology qualification programs.
Proficiency with data analysis tools (Python, JMP, Excel, or similar) for metrology data processing and reporting.
Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams is a plus.
