Full-Time | On-Site | 5 Years Experience
Diversified Services Network, Inc. (DSN) is seeking a full-time Electronic Component Project Engineer to join our team in Mossville, IL! We offer full benefits, PTO, 401k, and more! If you are an engineer who thrives on solving complex sustainment challenges and keeping mature legacy systems reliable and compliant within an extremely reputable, stable Fortune 500 company — let’s talk!
Position Overview
We are seeking an Electronic Component Project Engineer to join our Legacy Engineering & Sustainment team, fully on-site in Mossville, IL. Working under the direction of a Project Lead or Engineering Manager, you will execute component and system-level sustainment, obsolescence mitigation, and design control activities for legacy electronic products. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and suppliers, managing technical deliverables across engineering change execution, validation support, and lifecycle management.
This role is a strong fit for engineers who enjoy real-world, long-lifecycle products. It offers technical ownership, broad cross-functional exposure, and hands-on experience with lifecycle management, engineering change, validation, and supplier collaboration — building deep engineering judgment and a system-level perspective within a global team of 22 engineers across the US, India, and China.
Key Contributions & Responsibilities
Project Execution & Technical Leadership
• Execute assigned legacy sustainment and obsolescence mitigation projects in alignment with approved plans; own technical deliverables for assigned components or design families, including analysis, documentation, and reviews.
• Support project schedules by completing tasks on time, escalating risks or blockers early, and maintaining accurate engineering records.
Component Sustainment & Obsolescence
• Identify and assess risks related to component end-of-life, supplier discontinuations, and long lead time parts; support mitigation activities such as last-time buys, alternate part identification, and redesign efforts.
• Maintain and update component sustainment plans and lifecycle status using internal proprietary tools.
Design Control & Engineering Governance
• Execute tasks under established design control processes including documentation updates, technical reviews, design control transfers, supplier changes, and engineering ownership transitions.
• Prepare engineering evidence to support design decisions, deviations, or change approvals; ensure all outputs meet design control and documentation standards.
Validation & Technical Analysis
• Support component and system validation activities including EMC, vibration, environmental, and functional testing; coordinate with internal and external labs to execute test plans and collect results.
• Analyze test data and summarize findings to support sustainment or replacement decisions; participate in NPI review meetings and provide validation coverage and results to stakeholders.
Supplier & Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Work with suppliers to resolve technical issues and phase-out notifications; support supplier assessments and technical reviews as needed.
• Collaborate with system teams, quality, supply chain, and manufacturing partners; participate in project reviews, design reviews, and sustainment meetings. Proactively attend obsolescence meetings and provide timely project and task status updates.
Quality, Compliance & Continuous Improvement
• Support regulatory and compliance activities (e.g., RoHS, CE, and other applicable standards); contribute to quality improvement initiatives and corrective action efforts.
• Identify opportunities to improve data quality, processes, and engineering execution.
Team Structure & Work Environment
• You will work within a global team of 22 engineers (US, India, and China) focused on sustainment and obsolescence management of legacy electronic and electrical systems. Day-to-day interaction includes project discussions, design reviews, and cross-functional coordination across time zones.
