About Mecka AI
Mecka AI is building the data infrastructure layer for robotics and embodied AI.
We design and operate global systems for data capture, data labeling, and hardware-enabled workflows used by leading AI and robotics teams. Our operations span multiple countries, with contributors, partners, and customers across North America and Asia.
As the company scales, building strong financial systems and discipline is critical to supporting our growth.
Our Mission
Robotics will become the largest industry in human history — larger than anything that has come before it. As intelligent machines move into the physical world, they will dramatically expand global GDP, raise the material standard of living for everyone, and ultimately help make humanity a multiplanetary civilization. None of that happens without one thing: enormous amounts of high-quality, real-world data.
Mecka AI builds that foundation. We are the data infrastructure layer for robotics and embodied AI — the substrate that teaches machines to perceive, reason, and act in reality. Get this right, and we accelerate the most important technological transition of our time.
Our Culture
Excellence as the baseline. We hold an extremely high bar and expect the best work of your career. Mediocrity isn't interesting to us.
Highly technical. We reason from first principles, not by analogy. The best argument wins — regardless of title or tenure.
Truth-seeking. We are relentlessly honest with ourselves and each other. We chase reality — measured, not assumed — and kill our own bad ideas fast.
Maniacal urgency. The work matters and the clock is real. We move fast, ship, measure, and iterate.
Extreme ownership. You own outcomes end-to-end — no hand-offs, no excuses, no waiting for permission.
Hardcore. This is a high-intensity environment for people who want to do the defining work of their lives.
The Role
We’re hiring a Finance Lead to build and lead Mecka’s finance function as the company scales globally — owning accounting, tax, financial operations, and the systems and controls that hold a fast-growing, multi-entity company together.
Mecka is a US corporation with multiple international subsidiaries across North America and Asia, so cross-border accounting, tax, and compliance work is core to this seat. You will work closely with founders, leadership, and external advisors to make sure Mecka’s books, filings, and financial systems are accurate, defensible, and ready for scale.
This role is full-time, with the option to be based in our Toronto or New York office.
Responsibilities
Accounting & Controllership
Own monthly, quarterly, and annual close across the US parent and all international subsidiaries
Manage accounting, financial reporting, and internal controls in line with US GAAP and relevant local frameworks
Oversee bookkeeping, AP/AR, payroll accounting, and reconciliations across entities
Coordinate the annual audit and manage relationships with external accountants and auditors
Tax & International Compliance
Own Mecka’s US and international tax compliance and strategy across the US parent and global subsidiaries
Manage federal, state, and international filings; oversee transfer pricing, withholding, treaty application, and exposure across jurisdictions
Coordinate with external tax counsel and Big 4 advisors on planning, controversy, and structuring decisions
Maintain documentation and posture to defend tax positions in audits and diligence
Financial Operations & Systems
Build and manage the financial infrastructure across the company — ERP, expense, billing, payroll, and tax-tech stack
Transition finance operations from early-stage workflows (spreadsheets) to structured ERP and financial management systems
Build processes for reporting, reconciliation, intercompany transactions, and cross-entity consolidation
Stand up the controls and documentation needed as transaction volume and entity count scale
Strategy, Planning & Partnership
Partner with founders and leadership on financial strategy, budgeting, and capital allocation
Build financial models and provide analysis to support strategic and operational decisions
Support fundraising, investor reporting, and financial diligence as needed
Help build and scale the finance team over time
Serve as the financial backbone of the organization
Who You Are
Required Experience
US CPA in good standing
Manager-level finance, accounting, or tax experience, with a meaningful background in tax
Experience leading the finance function (or a major pillar of it) at a multi-entity, multi-jurisdiction company — across accounting, tax, and financial operations
Strong international experience: working across US-parent / foreign-subsidiary structures, including cross-border accounting, tax, and compliance
Track record working closely with external accountants, auditors, and tax firms
Strong technical command of US GAAP and US federal/state corporate tax
Ability to translate complex financial and tax matters into clear decisions for non-finance leadership
Strong Signals
Big 4 training (PwC, KPMG, EY, or Deloitte)
Prior in-house finance or tax role at a startup or scale-up
Experience supporting M&A diligence, financing, or international entity setup
Experience implementing or managing ERP and tax-tech systems (NetSuite, Avalara, Workiva, etc.)
Familiarity with hardware, robotics, AI, or capital-intensive technology companies
Comfortable operating both strategically (board-level reporting, planning) and hands-on (filings, audits, reconciliations)
Nice to Have
Dual designation (US CPA + Canadian CPA, CA or other jurisdictional credential)
R&D tax-credit experience (US R&D credit, SR&ED, or equivalent)
Experience operating across North America + APAC entity structures
Experience hiring and managing a small finance team
You Are
Highly organized and detail-oriented
