Equipment Technician III

T1 Energy

Posted about 5 hours ago

T1 Energy is bringing solar manufacturing back to the U.S. by building a domestic solar supply chain. Our mission is to invigorate America with scalable, reliable, and low-cost energy. Our fully operational 5GW solar module facility in Wilmer, Texas, can manufacture more than 20,000 modules every 24 hours. By the time you finish reading this paragraph, we will have produced two solar panels that will power American homes and fuel domestic AI. We're focused on building advanced American manufacturing and we're passionate about engineering a better future filled with abundant energy.

The Role

T1 Energy is seeking a senior-level Equipment Technician III to lead technical maintenance, systemic troubleshooting, and optimization efforts within our high-volume automated solar production facility. Operating as a critical technical leader on the plant floor, you will serve as a "Safety Ambassador" and subject matter expert for our advanced robotics, conveyor systems, and integrated production line hardware. In this elevated role, you will bridge the gap between pure equipment diagnostics and plant infrastructure support—independently resolving complex mechanical/electrical system failures while coordinating predictive maintenance (PM) programs, overseeing contractor safety, and mentoring junior technicians. This is an ideal position for an elite industrial technician ready to take on senior ownership and drive continuous process improvements in a 5GW manufacturing environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Advanced Floor Diagnostics & Repair: Independently isolate, diagnose, and resolve highly complex electrical, mechanical, pneumatic, and automated equipment malfunctions under pressure with minimal supervision.

Safety Leadership: Act as a "Safety Ambassador" for the floor team, conducting safety audits on maintenance activities, adhering strictly to LOTO guidelines, and ensuring all repairs follow strict company policies.

Controls & Automation Mastery: Manipulate and navigate complex Control Systems to efficiently isolate faults, clear errors, track equipment performance data, and eliminate hidden operational bottlenecks.

Predictive & Preventative Maintenance: Lead equipment technicians in the creation, execution, and training of advanced predictive and preventative maintenance (PM) workflows to prolong machinery longevity.

Training & Mentorship: Effectively train, develop, and mentor junior technicians and production operators on advanced troubleshooting methods, safe tool usage, and precision repairs.

Infrastructure & Facility Recovery: Apply cross-functional technical skills to support plant utility infrastructure during escalations (including air compressors, chillers, vacuum pumps, electrical distribution systems, and HVAC) and systematically assist in power recovery protocols.

Contractor & Project Oversight: Oversee external contractor activities to ensure safe work practices and adherence to project scopes; coordinate approved engineering line changes, retrofits, and 8020 cart fabrications.

Installation & Precision Alignment: Support the deployment and optimization of new production machinery, using hoists, jacks, squares, micrometers, and plumb bobs to guarantee precise alignment.

Reporting & Data Maintenance: Generate, maintain, and analyze equipment downtime and maintenance data in a CMMS platform and MS Excel to deliver actionable daily reporting to department leadership.

Fabrication & Rebuilding: Conduct advanced component rebuilding, circuit troubleshooting, and basic metal/wood fabrication (including welding and milling where required) to quickly restore machinery to optimal operating status.

Qualifications

Education: Associate degree or higher in Mechatronics, Electronics, Automation, Engineering Technology, or equivalent industrial/military experience.

Experience: 4+ years of hands-on industrial maintenance experience in a fast-paced environment (Photovoltaics/Solar, Semiconductor, or Automotive production fields highly preferred).

Technical Skills: Advanced troubleshooting proficiency across high and low voltage electrical systems, motor control panels, robotics floors, live drives, and complex conveyor networks. Strong working knowledge of pneumatic logic and hydraulics.

Tool & Equipment Operation: Proficient in the safe operation of articulating aerial lifts, shop diagnostic gear, metal/wood fabrication machinery (welding/milling), and precision hand tools.

Systems & Software: Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (specifically Excel for data reporting) and proven experience logging and tracking technical assets within a CMMS platform.

Core Attributes: Highly analytical, independent problem-solver who thrives under pressure, meets tight deadlines, and communicates effectively across floor personnel and engineering leadership.
