Role Description

Join us at Form Energy, where we're pioneering energy storage solutions for a sustainable future as a Senior Vision Engineer on our Operations Sustaining Team, you will play a crucial role in designing, prototyping, commissioning, and supporting machine vision products to enable automated Quality Control (QC) in continuous manufacturing processes. Your responsibilities will encompass software development, lighting and optics design, and the implementation of machine vision solutions to ensure part specifications are met while meeting line speed requirements. You will be an integral part of the team, contributing to the improvement of inspection systems for higher production yields. Relocation assistance is available.

What you'll do:

  • Troubleshooting and diagnostics of vision systems performance, with demonstrable competency in vision algorithm development and interfaces with PLC/HMI systems.

  • Develop and test lighting and optics solutions tailored to diverse dimension and surface inspection requirements.

  • Complete validation of vision systems for reliable performance, including evaluation of repeatability and reproducibility, precision to tolerance ratios, measurement uncertainty analysis, etc. to prevent quality escapes.

  • Experience prototyping and integrating vision systems in an industrial environment, with focus on quality and reliability.

  • Utilize C++, C#, and/or Python for software development, contributing to the creation and enhancement of machine vision algorithms and applications.

  • Provide on-site support for troubleshooting and continuous improvement of inspection systems during production.

  • Transform inline vision data into a full quality feedback system to upstream processes.

What you'll bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field.

  • 5+ years of experience in a fast-paced manufacturing or production development environment.

  • Demonstrated proficiency in inline quality inspection systems such as 2D area scan, 2D linescan, 3D profilometers, 3D measurement lasers, X-ray or CT inspections etc.

  • Knowledge of quality and reliability metrics including CpK, Alpha and Beta risk, and confusion matrices.

  • Strong understanding of lighting and optics principles, with the ability to design and test solutions for varied inspection requirements.

  • Background working with inline process data via tools like SQL, JMP, Minitab, IBA, etc

  • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • Effective communication and collaboration skills for interdisciplinary teamwork.

Where you'll work:

This role is based at Form Factory 1 in Weirton, WV—an easy commute from the city of Pittsburgh, PA. This 550,000-square-foot facility is our hub for high-volume battery production and a leader in the new era of American energy manufacturing. Relocation assistance is available.
