What You'll Do:
The Director, Clinical Services in partnership with the Vice President of Clinical Operations, is responsible for the overall leadership, direction, and oversight of clinical services and the individual care experience within the facility. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, recovery-oriented, and clinically effective services while maintaining compliance with regulatory, documentation, and reimbursement requirements.
An essential component of this position is the development and leadership of a high-performing interdisciplinary clinical team that collaborates effectively across clinical and operational functions to support exceptional patient care, operational excellence, and organizational outcomes. This role also offers an exciting opportunity to help shape and support the launch and long-term success of Connections Health Solutions' new Loudoun facility, brining innovative, recovery-oriented behavioral health crisis care to the community while helping build a strong clinical culture, high-performing teams, and exceptional care experiences from the ground up.
This position is also responsible for supporting the growth, implementation, sustainability, and fiscal health of the facility’s clinical operations. The Director, Clinical Services helps establish the tone and culture of the facility by actively engaging in staff development, leadership coaching, performance management, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Clinical Operations & Service Delivery
- Provides leadership and oversight of all clinical interdisciplinary teams in the planning, development, implementation, and evaluation of clinical operations and service delivery. Ensures care is individual-centered, timely, safe, effective, equitable, efficient, and recovery-oriented.
- Partners closely with Medical Leadership to ensure consistent, high-quality clinical service delivery across all clinical disciplines. Supports the development of clinical programming, operational workflows, and service delivery models that enhance patient outcomes and organizational performance.
- Identifies opportunities to improve operational efficiency, clinical outcomes, documentation practices, and reimbursement optimization through effective clinical and billing processes.
Leadership & Team Development
- Establishes and models a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Promotes timely, constructive, and consistent feedback to reinforce positive performance and address opportunities for development.
- Provides clinical supervision, mentorship, coaching, and leadership support to clinical staff in accordance with applicable licensure and regulatory requirements.
- Supports staff, leadership, and program development initiatives that strengthen team effectiveness, engagement, and clinical service delivery.
Quality, Compliance, & Risk Management
- Maintains accountability for clinical quality, service delivery outcomes, and performance improvement initiatives across the facility. Oversees Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities and ensures clinical services align with organizational standards, strategic priorities, and community needs.
- Collaborates closely with Compliance, Quality, and Operational leaders to ensure clinical services, supervision, documentation, training, and practices remain compliant with all regulatory, accreditation, payer, and organizational requirements.
- Participates in ongoing program compliance monitoring and works collaboratively with operational and support departments to ensure quality, safety, compliance, and service excellence standards are consistently achieved.
Financial & Operational Performance
- Oversees the fiscal management of clinical operations, including participation in budget development, monitoring revenue and expense performance, analyzing variances, and implementing operational adjustments to support financial sustainability.
- Supports the overall growth, implementation, sustainability, and operational performance of the facility while maintaining a focus on quality outcomes and fiscal responsibility.
Clinical Strategy & Program Development
- Supports the development and implementation of strategic clinical initiatives, programs, and workflows that align with organizational priorities and evolving community needs.
- Ensures timely and accurate completion of reporting requirements, audits, external deliverables, and responses to Managed Care Organizations (MCOs), regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders.
Community & External Partnerships
- Represents the organization within the local community and maintains collaborative partnerships with counties, Departments of Health, MCOs, hospitals, law enforcement, and other community stakeholders to support continuity of care and community engagement.
Additional Responsibilities
- Performs all other duties as assigned in support of facility operations, patient care, and organizational initiatives.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in behavioral health, social services
- Independent clinical licensure in Virginia State as a Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP). This category includes Psychiatrists (D.O. or M.D.), Clinical Psychologists (Psy.D. or Ph.D.), Psychotherapists, Clinical Social Workers (LMSW or LICSW), Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT), Psychiatric Nurses (RN, LNP, MHNP, NPP), Mental Health Counselors (LPC, LPC-R), and Addiction Counselors (CSAC)
- 7 years of clinical behavioral health operations experience
- 5 years of progressive leadership experience
- Experience or responsibility in managing P&L
- Experience leading large behavioral health teams - with multiple service lines, and large clinical teams in a high acuity 24-hour facility environment
- Must be able to perform Safe Clinch restraint techniques
- The Company has a mandatory vaccination policy. All successful applicants must be fully vaccinated, including showing proper documentation, or otherwise be exempt pursuant to the Company’s exemption process prior to their start date as a condition of employment
- Must be able to obtain a State of Virginia Fingerprint Clearance Card
- Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Development Services (VA DBHS) background check
- Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Social Services (VA DSS) Office of Background Investigations - Central Registry Search
It would be great if you had:
- Master's degree in healthcare administration, Social Services, or Nursing
- 10+ years of clinical, crisis operations, or relevant experience
- 5 years of progressive leadership experience including P&L responsibility
- Advanced licensure in Nursing or Behavioral Health
- Experience in emergency behavioral health including policies, procedures, and regulatory expectations
