What You'll Do
Reporting to the Procurement Manager, the role of a Shop Hand is to maintain and manage warehouse operations. The Shop Hand is responsible for receiving and organizing shipment, assist Project Managers and the Purchasers with locating material by jobs. The Shop Hand is also responsible to ensure that material is safely stored and tracked as it’s loaded/unloaded off the shelves.
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities include, but may not be limited to:
- Receive shipment and match a ViewPoint Purchase Order number to the packing slip
- Receive and update backordered, if required, quantities in ViewPoint Construction Software
- Load and unload incoming/outgoing material from the warehouse
- Plan and coordinate shipments with Administrative Assistant and 3rd party logistics companies
- Assist Fleet Manager with inventory control and planning
- Record shortage and reject damage goods
- Respond to shipping/receiving inquiries in a timely manner
- Prepare documents, such as work orders, bills of lading, and shipping orders to route materials
- Operate forklift within the shop, ensuring all safety and load limitations are followed at all times
- Material Handling Equipment (e.g. dollies, forklifts, hand trucks, jacks, pallet trucks, wrapping machinery)
- Maintain daily cleanliness and safety of the warehouse
Additional Information
- This position is designated as safety-sensitive making employment contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, as well as criminal and general background checks.
- This is a temporary position with an anticipated end date of August 31, 2026.
Schedule & Compensation
- Standard workdays are 8 hours (7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.)
- A reasonable estimate of the pay range for this role is $20.28-$32.81 USD per hour at the time of this posting. Individual compensation within the range is determined based on job-related skills, relevant experience, education and/or training.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
- At least 2 – 3 years’ experience working in a warehouse setting
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record required
- Ability to drive manual transmission vehicles is an asset
- Strong understanding of computer programs such as Microsoft, Teams and Viewpoint would be considered an asset
- Good customer service and time management skills
- Forklift Certification is an asset
- Able to handle difficult customers with diplomacy and tact
- Knowledge of logistics, including carriers, shipping policies and procedures
- Must be physically able to lift at least 50lbs repetitively
- Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
