The Opportunity

Since 2005, MDCalc has been an essential part of the clinician’s workflow to help achieve better patient outcomes. Actively used by more than 65% of physicians worldwide, MDCalc is the most broadly used medical reference – at the point-of-care – for clinical decision tools and content, and one of only four references used by >50% of US HCPs. These evidence-based tools and content are used by millions of medical professionals globally and support 50+ specialties and cover 200+ patient conditions.

The Role

This is a hands-on design role embedded in a collaborative, cross-functional team. You will work across user product, commercial, and platform initiatives - designing experiences that are clear, clinically credible, and built to scale. You will partner closely with Product and Engineering to take projects from concept through shipped product, contributing to user research along the way. This role is ideal for a designer who is comfortable with context-switching and cares deeply about the end user, and takes pride in craft at every level of fidelity.

The responsibilities of this individual include the following, but are not limited to:

  • Design features that improve how clinicians discover, use, and return to MDCalc

  • Contribute UX thinking early in the product process, from problem framing through interaction design and final specs

  • Support the design of commercial-facing surfaces including ad placements, campaign-adjacent UI, and client-facing tooling where UX intersects with revenue

  • Contribute to and maintain MDCalc's design system, ensuring components are consistent, accessible, and well-documented

  • Partner with Engineering to close the gap between design specs and implementation, and flag drift when it occurs

  • Participate in user research sessions - contributing to discussion guides, observing sessions, and synthesizing findings into design decisions

  • Use behavioral data and usability feedback to identify friction and drive iteration post-launch

  • Work across Product, Engineering, and Data as a full participant in sprint and discovery workflows

  • Communicate design rationale clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Handle multiple projects simultaneously across different product areas

Your Background

  • 3–5 years of UX design experience, with a portfolio demonstrating end-to-end product design work

  • Strong interaction design and visual design skills across both desktop and mobile contexts

  • Experience contributing to or working within a design system

  • Comfortable operating across multiple product areas and workstreams simultaneously

  • Solid written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience collaborating directly with Engineers and Product Managers in an agile environment

  • Healthcare, clinical tool, or professional SaaS experience a plus

  • Familiarity with Figma (and ideally component-level proficiency)

  • Exposure to user research methods - usability testing, interviews, synthesis

  • Experience designing for data-dense or information-heavy interfaces

  • Understanding of accessibility standards (WCAG)
