The Space Telescope Science Institute (STScI), operated by the Association of Universities for Research in Astronomy (AURA), is NASA’s science operations center for missions including the Hubble, James Webb, and upcoming Roman Space Telescopes.

STScI leads observation planning, data analysis, public engagement, and data archiving for flagship missions. Our staff spans astronomy, engineering, education, IT, communications, and administration—working together to bring space science to the world.

STScI is located in Baltimore on the Johns Hopkins Homewood campus. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to our local market. (MD, DE, VA, PA, DC & WV).

We are seeking an IT Asset Administrator for monitoring asset data integrity and accuracy of IT assets within the asset management database, assist with inbound/outbound IT equipment transfers, and documenting/improving asset lifecycle processes. Other responsibilities include ensuring stockrooms are maintained with proper stock levels, collaboration with other Divisions to ensure compliance with asset management best practices, policies, and regulations.

This role requires on-site presence 5 days per week.

Responsibilities Include:

• Maintain accurate inventory records for all IT assets in Service Now’s asset

management database (AMDB) and configuration management database (CMDB).

• Stockroom management including receiving purchase orders, deploying hardware, organizing all IT equipment/supplies, ordering additional products and updating inventory levels.

• Fulfill various ticket requests related to IT disposals, audits, IT equipment deliveries, using Service Now’s ticketing system following standard procedures and workflows.

• Reporting, auditing, and correcting discrepancies within the AMDB and CMDB as

needed.

• Analyze results from information service performance log files and other indicators,

and makes recommendations for improvements.

Assist with management of IT vending machines including restocking, managing product models, systems administration, and vendor support as needed.

• Assisting with internal and external audits to ensure compliance with relevant contracts and organizational goals.

• Securely disposing of all end-of-life hardware in alignment with industry best practices and compliant with government contracts.

• Perform other tasks and duties as assigned.

Required Education & Experience:

• Bachelor or Masters degree preferred

• 3+ years of applicable experience or an equivalent combination of education and

experience

 

Requirements

Required Knowledge & Skills:

• Strong experience or familiarity with IT inventory management practices.

• Familiarity with asset management and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow or similar

tools)

• Understanding basic hardware components, including storage devices (HDDs, SSDs) and general

familiarity with IT hardware.

• ITIL, or CompTIA A+ certifications are desirable.

• Attention to detail with strong organizational, communication and customer skills

• Problem solving skills, and the ability to work proactively

• Ability to follow standard processes and procedures.

• Microsoft Excel spreadsheet experience is a plus.

• Ability to manage and fulfill ticket requests in a timely manner using a ticketing

system.

• Ability to lift 40 lbs.
