⭐ Our Financial Operations Team:

Our team sits within Monzo’s Finance collective, our job is to ensure we pay our suppliers & employees on time, ensuring invoices are posted correctly in the ledger. We work closely with the Financial Control team to ensure the figures are correct for month end, as well as supporting Tax with their reporting. We’re currently a team of 8 based in our Cardiff & London offices.

You’ll be working on all aspects of Accounts Payable & Accounts Receivable, ensuring our invoices & employee expenses are processed & approved in line with policy, ensuring day-to-day process runs smoothly and accurately, stakeholder queries are resolved within our SLAs, assisting with reporting. Timely preparation of month end tasks to ensure a smooth month end close.

We have some really exciting challenges coming up like a new expenses system Concur implementation, the introduction of Purchase Orders across the Business, expanding into Europe, pushing forward with our automation plans, continuing to grow our customer base, growing our lending business and adding to our marketplace. You’ll work on scaling Monzo in a controlled way, while helping us optimise our financial control processes with the help of technology. You’ll report to our Financial Operations Manager

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

  • Team Leadership & Management: Deputize for the Financial Operations Manager, directing daily work tasks for the team and stepping in as acting lead when required. Directly manage junior team members, setting performance goals and conducting appraisals to foster professional growth.
  • Process Automation & System Implementation: Serve as the primary point of contact for financial system implementations and automation initiatives, ensuring seamless adoption and integration into daily tasks.
  • Performance Metrics & Documentation: Establish, define, and monitor team performance metrics. Champion continuous improvement by creating, updating, and maintaining robust process documentation and internal controls.
  • Financial Operations & Control: Oversee multi-currency invoice reviews across UK, EU, and US subsidiaries for accounts payable & accounts receivable. Review and approve payment runs, ensuring strict compliance with company policy and timely supplier payments.
  • Treasury & Tax Support: Oversee weekly and monthly bank reconciliations and provide critical support to the Accounts Receivable function, VAT reporting, and corporation tax processes.
  • Stakeholder & Ad-Hoc Management: Manage key internal and external stakeholder relationships. Efficiently resolve complex team inquiries and deliver ad-hoc financial reporting, such as deep-dive supplier spend analyses.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You have experience in managing junior members of Accounts Payable & Receivable functions, with tax or treasury experience a bonus.
  • SAP Hana experience would be a bonus but not essential if you can adapt to new systems easily (e.g. SAP and G-suite functionality).
  • You love the challenge of learning new things and getting stuck in.
  • You have a great eye for detail and delight in investigating and solving issues for people.
  • You thrive in a dynamic and constantly evolving environment.
  • You’re a self-starter and are hands-on.

📍This role can be based in our Cardiff office, but we're open to distributed working within the UK (with ad hoc meetings in London & Cardiff).
