Come shape the future of education with us.
At Compass, we're on a mission to transform the school day for everyone - from staff and students to families and administrators. We build smart, seamless technology that empowers schools to focus on what really matters: learning, growing and thriving.
That mission has fuelled our growth into a global scale-up, now supporting 5,000+ schools across three countries, backed by a team of 300+ people. Our all-in-one school management platform is redefining how education communities connect, communicate and operate.
We're now looking for a Business Analyst to join our Finance Product team in Melbourne.
About the Role
Reporting to the Product Manager, you'll work across our product portfolio to help define, refine and communicate the business and technical requirements that power high-quality delivery.
Your primary mission will be to drive clarity and quality throughout the product development lifecycle - leading triage and backlog management, reducing defects through strong QA collaboration and maintaining the documentation that keeps our Customer Experience teams equipped to help schools effectively.
What you'll do
- Collaborate with Product Managers and Owners to translate strategic initiatives into clearly defined epics and user stories.
- Elicit and document functional and non-functional requirements, ensuring clarity and completeness for delivery teams.
- Write and maintain artefacts including business requirement documents, user stories and process flows.
- Keep documentation current to support Customer Experience teams in helping schools effectively.
- Manage triage workflows for incoming feature requests, defects and platform issues across the portfolio.
- Partner with Product Owners to refine and prioritise backlog items for upcoming sprints.
- Ensure high-impact issues are assessed and escalated appropriately.
- Collaborate with QA Specialists to analyse defect patterns, reduce regression issues and improve overall quality.
- Proactively identify gaps in requirements or test coverage and address them early in the development lifecycle.
- Participate in sprint ceremonies and testing cycles to validate delivered features.
- Work with onboarding and support teams to clarify workflows, edge cases and change management needs for new schools.
- Provide timely, accurate context on product behaviour and configuration to internal teams.
- Assist with data mapping and migration from legacy platforms.
- Review compliance specifications for new jurisdictions and propose solutions that balance requirements with usability.
