Location Equipment Coordinator - Smashbox Studios LA

Smashbox Studios is the premier fashion and commercial photo studio in Los Angeles. We are looking for a Location Equipment Coordinator to assist in our daily operations and drive the success of our equipment and production supply rentals. In this role, you will elevate and uphold the Smashbox Studios brand, industry position, and culture, ensuring our clients receive world-class service.

Core Responsibilities

As a Location Equipment Coordinator, you will manage the lifecycle of our premium gear and ensure seamless execution for location shoots. Your daily responsibilities include:

• Order Management: Accurately pack, stage, and deliver equipment and production supply orders on time.
• Quality Control: Inspect and count all gear upon return. Test equipment regularly to ensure it is in perfect working condition.
• Logistics & Driving: Perform timely deliveries and pickups of equipment and sub-rentals throughout the Los Angeles area.
• Maintenance & Inventory: Manage equipment repairs to minimize downtime. Maintain strict inventory counts of in-house supplies and expendables (e.g., seamless paper, batteries, hardware, tools).
• Client Relations: Act as a technical resource for clients, answering questions regarding photography, film, and digital equipment. Solicit feedback to continually elevate service levels.
• Administrative Support: Handle phones, emails, and texts efficiently. Collaborate closely with Smashbox Studios leadership, internal departments and vendors.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must bring a deep technical understanding of production gear paired with a high-end customer service mindset.

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in a similar rental house, studio, or production role.
• Technical Expertise: Extensive, mandatory knowledge of photo and film equipment, including digital/film/video cameras, lighting systems, and grip gear.
• Driving Record: A clean driving record and a strong, navigable knowledge of the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
• Physical Demands: Physical condition necessary for active warehouse and location operations, including the ability to lift up to 50 lbs regularly. (Note: Increased from 30lbs, as standard grip/lighting gear often exceeds 30lbs).
• Industry Savvy: Excellent working knowledge of the commercial film and photography industry, with a sharp understanding of high-end customer service expectations.
• A self-starter attitude with meticulous attention to detail.
• Enthusiastic, team-oriented mindset with a dedication to excellence in a fast-paced environment.
• Exceptional communication, time-management, and prioritization skills.
• Experience with rental software, producing rental estimates, and billing workflows is a major plus.

Benefits

The anticipated salary range for this role is $19-$20 per hour. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience, and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
