Company Mission
Making family care possible. At Abby Care, we are tackling one of the most important and unsolved challenges of our time: family caregiving.
Over 50 million Americans are family caregivers for loved ones without pay, tools, or support. Our mission is to train and employ family caregivers so they can get paid for the care they already provide at home.
Abby Care is building a tech-powered, family-first care platform to efficiently deliver care, improve health outcomes, and provide a best-in-class experience nationwide. We are backed by top mission-driven investors and are building a high-caliber team across technology, operations, and healthcare.
The Role
At Abby Care, we are building AI-powered technology designed to transform care delivery and seamlessly scale complex healthcare operations. We are focused on creating measurable impact for caregivers, families, and internal teams through robust, intelligent systems.
We’re looking for a Senior Applied AI Engineer to build production-grade AI systems that automate and augment critical workflows across the organization. This is a hands-on, zero-to-one engineering role focused on translating ambiguous operational problems into reliable, secure, and highly scalable AI solutions. You will report to the Head of Engineering and work closely with Engineering, Product, Design, Data, and Operations.
You will own the end-to-end lifecycle of our customer-facing AI products. To ensure these solutions are practical and impactful, you will collaborate closely with Product, Design, Data, and Operations, effectively bridging the gap between complex technical tradeoffs and real-world care delivery.
Key Responsibilities
Zero-to-One Architecture: Drive the full product lifecycle of applied AI systems—from problem framing and model selection to robust implementation, automated evaluation, and scalable production deployment.
Engineering Leadership: Act as the definitive technical lead for your product areas. Mentor engineers, conduct rigorous code reviews, and elevate the team's shipping velocity and engineering standards.
Cross-Functional Strategy: Collaborate closely with product, operations, clinical, and compliance teams to ensure AI solutions are safe, trustworthy, and practical for real-world care applications.
Requirements
Professional Experience: 5+ years of non-internship experience in software engineering and applied AI/ML engineering, with a proven track record of shipping products from concept to production.
Core Languages & Infrastructure: High proficiency in Python and extensive experience operating within modern cloud platforms (e.g., AWS).
Applied AI Tooling: Deep, hands-on experience deploying, monitoring, and scaling LLM applications. Must possess strong expertise in:
RAG architectures and agentic workflows
Model fine-tuning and automated performance measurement
Data processing and orchestration workflows
Human-in-the-loop AI pipelines
Preferred
Security: Demonstrated ability to establish best practices for data security, particularly designing privacy guardrails for LLMs.
Compliance: Experience in highly regulated environments or healthcare data compliance (e.g., HIPAA, SOC2) is highly desirable.
Education: Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
Benefits
Competitive compensation packages that reflect the value you bring. We reward our team for the impact of their work – full-time employees are eligible for an annual company performance bonus.
Comprehensive health coverage that works for you. Choose from high-quality medical dental and vision options, including a $0 deductible PPO and a company-funded HSA, alongside employer-paid life and disability insurance.
Generous paid time off. We provide policies that allow you to recharge along with 10 paid company holidays.
Financial savings benefits to support your future. We support your financial well-being with HSA contributions, optional FSA and commuter benefits, and full coverage of all 401(k) account fees (employer match not currently offered).
Paid parental leave to support your growing family. We provide paid leave, so you can focus on bonding and adjusting to life as your family grows.
