About Atum Works
We are building the world's first scalable 3D lithography foundry: technology that could fundamentally change how advanced computing systems are built and the material basis of our world.
The world is changed by small groups of unusually capable people working on an ambitious problem together. We are looking for the next core team member that will redefine advanced packaging and shape the trajectory of Atum Works.
Position Summary
As a Software Engineer / Modeller, you will work directly with the founders and engineering team to build the modelling and simulation systems that help Atum decide what to do next.
You should be comfortable going from pen and paper equations to working code quickly. This includes deriving and solving equations at the right level of detail for the problem at hand.
As the company enters its next phase of technical progress, you will help define the modelling and software systems that allow Atum to scale while maintaining a high rate of learning.
Much of this role is taking messy physical systems and turning them into something we can actually use.
Your work will directly impact how quickly we learn, iterate, and improve. You are not here to build perfect models. You are here to help the team make better decisions, faster.
Your work will extend beyond modelling into real systems, including tooling that supports testing, assembly, and process development.
We care about people who can operate at the right level of abstraction for the problem at hand.
Many people have experience with statistics but you will need to understand the underlying assumptions and simplifications that lie beneath the methods you use.
Regardless of level, this is a highly hands-on role and requires building models, writing code, and shipping tools directly.
Qualifications
Build and own modelling and simulation systems for Atum’s core processes
Develop models for feature formation, deposition behavior, and interconnect performance that directly inform experiments and design decisions
Help create and evolve Atum’s digital twin by connecting modelling, experimental data, and system behavior
Translate physical systems into mathematical and numerical models, from first principles through validation
Build fast, practical engineering tools that enable rapid exploration of design and process tradeoffs
Partner closely with process and materials teams to create tight model-to-experiment feedback loops
Develop software systems for automation, data collection, experimental workflows, and instrument control
Turn modelling outputs into practical engineering tools, process design kits, or manufacturing guidelines
Strong first-principles thinking across physics, materials, mechanical, chemical, or electrical engineering
Experience building practical simulation and modelling tools used in real-world systems
Strong coding ability in Python, C++, Julia, or similar languages
Comfortable working across analytical models, numerical simulation, optimization, and data-driven methods
Experience with numerical methods such as finite element, finite difference, or related approaches
Strong mathematical intuition and ability to validate models with order-of-magnitude reasoning
Experience working with data, uncertainty, and statistics; SPC experience is a plus
Experience applying machine learning to physical systems is a plus
High ownership, strong execution, and ability to move quickly from idea to working system
Preferred
Experience in semiconductors, packaging, MEMS, or adjacent domains
Experience modelling deposition processes, interconnects, or reliability
Familiarity with multiphysics tools such as COMSOL or ANSYS
Experience working closely with experimental or hardware teams
Experience with GPU programming or high-performance computing is a plus
Experience with data driven dynamical systems (e.g. SINDy, graph completion) and uncertainty quantification (gaussian processes, markov chain monte carlo, etc.) a plus
Benefits
Medical, dental, vision, and 401k
