Role Description:

As a member of Mill's Product Design Engineering team you will own the mechanical integration of camera and imaging systems into Mill's hardware products. You will work closely with other members of the PD team as well as cross-functional groups including Industrial Design, Electrical Engineering, Reliability, Firmware, Product Management, and Operations to bring a world-class vision system to life inside a demanding real-world environment.

Objectives of this role:

  • Own the mechanical integration of camera module from concept through mass production
  • Partner with EE and firmware teams to define camera mounting requirements, thermal management strategies, and cable routing solutions
  • Generate detailed CAD models, specifications, and documentation for camera assemblies and associated mechanical components
  • Prototype, test, and analyze camera sub-system designs to validate image quality, environmental robustness, and long-term reliability
  • Perform tolerance analysis and define alignment strategies to meet image quality targets
  • Perform root cause analysis of performance failures and drive corrective actions
  • Work directly with the supply chain and contract manufacturers to ensure camera assemblies are properly manufactured and assembled at scale

Qualifications:

  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
  • 5+ years of experience in mechanical product design, with at least 2 years directly involving camera or imaging system integration
  • Experience designing camera systems for harsh or contaminated environments strongly preferred
  • Consumer Electronics, Home Appliance, or IoT hardware industry experience preferred
  • Expertise in CAD modeling; experience with NX preferred
  • Detailed knowledge of plastic and metal part manufacturing processes
  • Solid understanding of DFM, DFA, GD&T, and tolerance analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to apply engineering fundamentals to find simple solutions to complex problems
  • A strong desire to work hands-on
  • Strong communication skills

The estimated base salary range for this position is $175k to $225k, which does not include the value of benefits or a potential equity grant. A wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, market conditions, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and business and organizational needs. At Mill, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
