ABOUT CIVITAS

Civitas Public Affairs Group, an Orchestra company, is a values-based public affairs firm that delivers winning advocacy campaigns for our clients and the communities they serve. We enlist experts, leverage relationships, and build coalitions to address some of the most pressing political and societal challenges of our day, including climate change, protecting our democracy, reproductive health, and advancing the rights of LGBTQ people.

Our bipartisan firm brings proven experience developing innovative advocacy campaigns to win substantive policy change at the local, state, and national levels. With offices in Boston, New York City, and Washington DC, we work closely with the nation’s leading philanthropists, non-profit organizations, and movements to substantively impact progressive issues and causes.

Some of our current and former clients include the Black Futures Policy Institute, CityHealth, the Collaborative for Gender and Reproductive Equity, Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions, Center for Secure and Modern Elections, Inseparable, National Council for Mental Wellbeing, the Pipeline Fund, the Trevor Project, Voices for Healthy Kids, and more.

We are seeking a Senior Associate to join our team. While there is a preference for candidates based in New York City, we are also open to candidates located in Boston, MA or Washington, DC. This is a hybrid position requiring three days per week in the office.

ABOUT THIS ROLE

The Senior Associate will play a key role in supporting and executing client engagements across Civitas’ portfolio. This position involves close collaboration with internal teams and clients, providing direct exposure to big-picture policy and strategy development alongside some of the nation’s leading political, policy, and thought leaders.

We are seeking a candidate with a strong understanding of today’s political and public policy landscape. The ideal candidate is highly versatile, with experience in issue advocacy and/or campaigns, a solid foundation in project management, and a demonstrated ability to use advocacy tools and tactics to drive measurable results. Experience working in or with government, as well as in policy, organizing, or coalition-building environments, is preferred.

ACCOUNTABILITIES AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Manage client engagement, produce content, and meet deliverables.
  • Provide expert internal and external project management across workstreams.
  • Conduct research and maintain a strong understanding of legislation and policy.
  • Produce high-quality written products, including white papers, policy briefs, and presentations that are client-ready.
  • Provide project, event, and meeting support along with other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Minimum of 5–7 year’s experience, with a track record of successful execution of public affairs, policy, or electoral campaigns.
  • Demonstrated experience in project and client management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, advocacy, and analytic skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, adapt to shifting priorities, and meet established deadlines.
  • Self-starter with ability to take initiative and manage time independently.
  • Strong computer, web, and technology skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Google Suite.
  • Willingness to serve as a team player with high impact and low ego.
  • Creative, out-of the box thinker with excellent judgement, a curious spirit and a sense of humor is a plus.
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree public policy or related field is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel as needed for meetings and convenings.

The salary range for this position is $90,000-$150,000 per year, commensurate with experience. This is a hybrid position that will require 3 days per week in the New York City/DC/Boston office. Civitas also offers opportunities for a bonus through an annual review process and an excellent benefits package including coverage for health, vision, and dental insurance premiums; paid parental leave; time off including vacation, holidays, and wellness days; 401(k) with an employer contribution and additional benefits.
