As Corporate Controller, you will report to the CFO and lead Mudflap’s accounting organization. You’ll oversee a high-performing team and be responsible for building a best-in-class accounting function that scales with our growth. This is a strategic and operational leadership role, requiring deep expertise in public company readiness, technical accounting, and global financial operations.

You’ll play a critical role in ensuring financial integrity, driving operational excellence, and preparing Mudflap for its next stage of growth.

This role involves a hybrid work approach, balancing in-office collaboration with the ability to work remotely.

Expectations (In this role, you will):

  • Lead and scale the global accounting function, overseeing all core areas including general ledger, financial reporting, AP/AR, payroll, and tax.

  • Manage and develop a team of accounting leaders and professionals, fostering a high-performance, accountable, and growth-oriented culture.

  • Own the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, ensuring timely, accurate, and audit-ready financial statements.

  • Establish and enhance internal controls, policies, and procedures to ensure compliance with GAAP and readiness for public company standards (SOX, SEC reporting).

  • Serve as a key partner in public company readiness efforts, including systems, controls, reporting, and audit infrastructure.

  • Oversee external audits, tax compliance, and relationships with auditors, advisors, and regulatory bodies.

  • Provide technical accounting leadership on complex areas (e.g., revenue recognition, financial instruments, equity, international operations).

  • Drive global accounting operations as the company expands internationally, including multi-entity and multi-currency environments.

  • Partner cross-functionally with Finance, Legal, RevOps, and Product to improve financial processes, systems, and reporting capabilities.

  • Support strategic decision-making by providing insights on accounting implications, risks, and opportunities.

  • Evaluate and implement systems and automation to improve efficiency, scalability, and data integrity (e.g., NetSuite and adjacent tools).

Experience (What we look for):

  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership roles in high-growth companies.

  • Proven experience as a Corporate Controller, VP of Accounting, or Head of Accounting, with responsibility for leading and scaling teams.

  • Strong experience with public companies and/or IPO readiness, including SOX compliance and external reporting.

  • Background in global accounting operations, including managing international entities and distributed teams.

  • CPA required; Big 4 or top-tier public accounting experience strongly preferred.

  • Deep expertise in GAAP, technical accounting, and internal controls.

  • Experience with modern accounting systems (e.g., NetSuite) and building scalable financial infrastructure.

  • Strong leadership presence with the ability to influence executives and cross-functional stakeholders.

  • Hands-on, detail-oriented mindset paired with strategic thinking and the ability to operate at both altitude and depth.

  • Experience in fintech, payments, or marketplace businesses is a plus.

If you’re passionate about building and leading a world-class accounting organization and want to have a meaningful impact in a fast-moving, mission-driven company, we’d love to hear from you.
