We are seeking a high-caliber Senior Accountant to lead a critical project: clearing a high-volume backlog of balance sheet reconciliations resulting from recent audits and system transitions. This is not a "maintenance" role; it is a remediation and cleanup project requiring a candidate who can navigate complex datasets, identify root causes of discrepancies, and leave the accounts in an "audit-ready" state.
This is a full-time, temporary role (2–3 months) with potential for extension. Fully remote with required overlap in U.S. (PST) hours.
Key Responsibilities:
- Execute high-volume balance sheet reconciliations across complex accounts (Cash, Accruals, Prepaids, Intercompany, and Sales Tax).
- Trace historical discrepancies through multiple periods to identify system errors, cutoff issues, or missing entries.
- Prepare clean, standardized reconciliation folders that meet public company audit standards (Sox-compliant style).
- Efficiently manipulate large datasets exported from NetSuite using advanced Excel functions to perform "true-ups."
- Proactively identify why backlogs occurred and suggest internal control enhancements to prevent future variances.
What does success look like?
- All assigned balance sheet accounts are reconciled to zero unexplained variance within the first 60–90 days.
- External auditors can review your workpapers with zero follow-up questions regarding the methodology.
- You can take a "messy" account and provide a clear path to resolution with minimal supervision.
Requirements
- 5+ years of accounting experience, specifically in remediation, audit support, or post-merger/system integration cleanup.
- Prior experience in a high-growth or public company environment is strongly preferred.
- Advanced proficiency in NetSuite (specifically pulling custom reports and saved searches) and Excel (Power Query, Pivot Tables, XLOOKUP).
- Technical Knowledge: Strong grasp of GAAP, specifically regarding revenue recognition (for food/events) and expense accrual cutoffs.
- A "detective" mentality—you enjoy solving puzzles and bringing order to chaotic data.
