About Atomic Semi

Atomic Semi is building a small, fast semiconductor fab.

It’s already possible to build this with today’s technology and a few simplifications. We’ll build the tools ourselves so we can quickly iterate and improve.

We’re building a small team of exceptional, hands-on engineers to make this happen. Mechanical, electrical, hardware, computer, and process. We’ll own the stack from atoms to architecture. Our team is optimistic about the future and we want to continue pushing the limits of technology.

Smaller is better. Faster is better. Building it ourselves is better.

We believe our team and lab can build anything. We’ve set up 3D printers, a wide array of microscopes, e-beam writers, general fabrication equipment - and whatever is missing, we’ll just invent along the way.

Atomic was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.

About the Team

Our production team builds components, tools, and fabs in-house. From machined parts and sheet metal to printed circuit board assemblies and lasers, we make a lot of components ourselves. We assemble, test, and bring-up equipment using those components, supporting our hardware teams from their first prototype through volume production.

About the Role

The Production Technician assembles semiconductor equipment from work instructions, bills of materials, CAD models, and drawings. The work spans mechanical and electrical assembly, soldering, and testing. Our Technicians work alongside engineers to refine designs and support the bring-up of our tools and fabs.

Responsibilities

  • Perform the mechanical and electrical assembly of semiconductor equipment, including components, sub-assemblies, tools, and fabs.

  • Build wire harnesses and solder through-hole and SMT components.

  • Conduct in-process testing of components, sub-assemblies, and completed tools to verify functionality and identify defects.

  • Use CAD models, drawings, and BOMs to perform builds, verify part revisions, and find discrepancies between as-designed and as-built.

  • Partner with manufacturing and mechanical engineers to improve equipment designs, assembly processes, and work instructions.

  • Support bring-up and installation of tools and fabs, troubleshooting issues alongside engineering.

  • Use light fabrication equipment such as 3D printers, laser cutters, and jigs to produce parts and assembly aids.

Required Experience

  • 2+ years building electro-mechanical assemblies from drawings, BOMs, and work instructions.

  • Methodical attention to detail in testing and quality verification.

  • Track record of working with engineers to troubleshoot and improve designs, processes, and instructions.

Nice-to-have

  • Experience with precision assembly or vacuum systems.

  • Experience with end-of-line testing and integration.

  • Familiarity with ERP or inventory systems.
