Windchill – CAD Applications Administrator (Mid-Level)

Riveron

Posted about 12 hours ago

We are seeking a Windchill–CAD Administrator to operationalize end-to-end CAD/PDM excellence across our engineering value chain. This role owns the CAD data backbone—governing configurations, integrations, publishing pipelines, and user enablement—so engineers can work faster with fewer issues. You will keep our Windchill PLM and all engineering applications (CAD/CAE/ECAD/CFD/FEA, viewers, plug-ins, and tools) running smoothly. You’ll manage setup, performance, licenses, standards, upgrades, and user support.

What you will do

  • Maintain Windchill (12.x):

    • Monitor servers and queues

    • Manage lifecycles, OIRs, ACLs, and publishing (WVS/CAD workers)

  • Own engineering apps:

    • Administer Creo and other tools (AutoCAD, Ansys/Fluent, MATLAB, viewers)

    • Package, deploy, and update clients and add-ins

  • Standards & data quality:

    • Maintain start parts, templates, parameters/relations

    • Enforce naming/numbering rules and WTPart–EPM links

    • Clean metadata

  • Publishing & visualization:

    • Ensure Creo View/neutral formats (STEP/JT/3D PDF) are reliable and fast

    • Fix publish failures

  • Integrations:

    • Support WGM integrations, ECAD/MCAD exchange (IDX/STEP)

    • Handle REST/WRS/OData calls

    • Manage downstream ERP handoffs

  • Licenses:

    • Manage FLEXlm and other license servers

    • Create/modify license files, track usage, right-size counts

    • Support audits/renewals

  • Automation:

    • Script common tasks (PowerShell/Python/Bash) for client rollout, log collection, and checks

  • Security & access:

    • Collaborate with IT/IAM on SSO/SAML, certificates, and least-privilege access

  • Upgrades & changes:

    • Plan, test, and roll out CAD Applications to latest release, patches, and hotfixes with clear runbooks

  • User support (L3):

    • Fix workspace corruption, check-in/out issues, failed analyses/publishes

    • Write guides and train users

  • Cloud/HPC:

    • Support GCP/Azure/AWS hosts, CAD workers, and HPC/solver queues for CAE jobs

    • Monitor cost and performance

Must-have skills:

  • 4–6 years in PLM/engineering apps admin, including 3+ years with Windchill + CAD tools (Creo/WGM at minimum)

  • Strong knowledge of EPM/WTPart, lifecycles, ACLs, WVS, vaulting/replication, and client configs

  • Hands-on with one or more: Creo, AutoCAD (Must Have), Ansys, Mathworks (Optional), ECAD/EDA tools, or engineering viewers

  • Scripting (PowerShell/Python/Bash), Windows admin, basic Linux, and basic SQL Querying (Oracle), Query Builder and QML

  • Experience with Creo and Windchill Model check implementation

  • Clear documentation and training skills

Nice to have:

  • ThingWorx Navigate basics; MPMLink or Options & Variants experience with Creo and Windchill

  • REST/WRS/OData familiarity for light integrations

  • Cloud hosting (GCP/Azure), reverse proxy/SSL, GPU-based publishing

  • License analytics/dashboards and vendor management experience

  • Compliance awareness (Export Control/ECCN/ITAR) for attributes and access

How we measure success:

  • Availability: Windchill uptime ≥ 99.9%; publish success ≥ 98%

  • Performance: Fast check-in/out, low queue/backlog, stable app launches

  • Quality: Clean data (low failed loads/rework), fewer repeat incidents, lower MTTR

  • Cost: Healthy license utilization - reduced idle/over-licensed seats

  • Adoption: Positive user feedback and fewer “how-to” tickets over time

A typical day:

  • Morning health checks (queues, workers, storage, license usage)

  • Resolve publishes or solver failures; help a designer with a workspace issue

  • Roll out a client update or new template/parameter set

  • Document a fix and share a tip

  • Review trends; automate a noisy manual task

Education:

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering or IT (or equivalent experience)

  • PTC Windchill/Creo admin certifications are a plus
