How We Work: AI-First by Design

Harmonic exists to help enterprises adopt AI safely and at scale. We hold ourselves to the same standard. Everyone at Harmonic actively uses AI tools to do their best work, from research and writing to building processes and automating workflows. We expect every new hire to bring curiosity about AI and a willingness to use it to work smarter, faster, and more creatively. For some roles, that means tinkering and staying open to new tools. For others, it means building entirely new systems with AI at the core. We'll be clear about what we expect for each role, and we'll give you the tools and support to get there.

About the Role

Reporting to the VP, Finance, you will join as our second finance hire and help build the finance function from the ground up within a lean, two-person team under People & Operations. This is not a "maintain the spreadsheets" role, it is a seat at the table from day one. You will be the primary analytical and operational partner to the Head of Finance, covering strategic finance, core accounting, and whatever else the business needs as we scale.

We are looking for someone who is genuinely versatile: comfortable modeling a scenario in the morning, reviewing month-end close in the afternoon, and jumping into a cross-functional project with no notice. You should be energized by ambiguity, not paralyzed by it.

The Finance Manager role will be:

  • 50% Strategic Finance

  • 25% Accounting & Controls

  • 25% Other & Special Projects

What You Will Do

1. Strategic Finance

  • Partner with the leadership team on investor reporting, headcount, and equity modeling.

  • Leverage AI for analytics across ARR, pipeline, headcount, unit economics, and burn - connecting the numbers to business decisions.

  • Lead scenario analysis and sensitivity modeling for key strategic decisions.

  • Track and report on KPIs (ARR, NRR, ARR burn multiple, payback period) with clear narrative for both internal and investor audiences.

  • Own financial planning and create the processes for rolling forecasts.

2. Accounting & Controls

  • Oversee month-end close and ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial statements.

  • Manage relationships with external accountants, auditors, and tax advisors.

  • Maintain clean financials as we approach Series B and beyond.

  • Own accounts payable/receivable and ensure expense policies are applied consistently.

  • Support implementation of accounting systems and financial controls as the business scales.

3. Other & Special Projects

  • Implement tooling such as ERP, expense platform, and order-to-cash automation.

  • Jump into cross-functional projects across payroll, benefits, compliance, People Ops, and Legal where financial input or rigor is needed.

  • Build internal finance processes from scratch.

  • Help recruit, onboard, and eventually manage future finance team members.

What Success Looks Like

  • Finance is a trusted strategic voice, not a support function to leadership and the board.

  • Reporting is accurate, timely, and tells a clear story that non-finance stakeholders can act on.

  • Financials are investor-ready as we move toward Series B and beyond.

  • AI and automation are embedded into how the finance function operates, reducing manual effort and increasing analytical depth.

  • Cross-functional teams have a reliable, high-agency finance partner they can count on.

What You Bring

  • 8–10 years of experience across finance and accounting - at least 6 years in a startup or high-growth environment.

  • A strong track record navigating rapid growth, change, and competing priorities - you have been through a scale-up phase and know what it takes.

  • Comfort operating across the full finance stack - from board-level storytelling to reconciling a balance sheet.

  • Genuine enthusiasm for hands-on work - you do not wait for someone else to build the model or fix the process.

  • Outstanding communication skills: you can translate complex financials into a clear narrative for non-finance stakeholders.

  • Sound judgement under pressure: you know when to move fast and when to slow down and get it right.

  • High agency and low ego - you take ownership, give credit, and ask for help when you need it.

  • Active, practical familiarity with AI tools - not theoretical interest, actual daily use.

You Might Be a Fit If

  • Are an early AI adopter who uses it as a default part of your workflow - for research, drafting, modeling, and analysis.

  • Have automated repetitive finance processes and reporting tasks using AI or no-code tooling.

  • Love building systems and processes from scratch and iterating quickly based on feedback.

  • Thrive in ambiguity and fast-changing startup environments.

  • Have a point of view on AI's limitations: you understand that AI fluency includes knowing when not to trust outputs and how to maintain accountability.

A CPA, CFA, or MBA is not required. Big four or investment banking experience is not required. What matters is what you have built, what you have learned from doing it, and how you think about problems.
