The Senior Distribution Strategist is a leadership role reporting to the Director of Editorial Product Strategy (Julie Zeveloff) and serving as a key strategic partner to the Business Development team. This role is responsible for leading Business Insider’s off-platform distribution strategy across social platforms, syndication partners, and emerging channels, with a focus on maximizing partner performance, expanding revenue opportunities, and driving audience growth.
The role will unify siloed distribution efforts across editorial and video teams, establish clear platform strategies and KPIs, and ensure Business Insider effectively packages, distributes, and monetizes content across external platforms. This leader will oversee a team of social distribution specialists.
The Ideal Candidate Has:
- Strong commercial instincts and experience supporting audience and revenue growth across external platforms and partnerships.
- Deep understanding of social, syndication, and emerging platform ecosystems, including how distribution strategies impact traffic, engagement, and monetization.
- Strong data fluency, with experience translating analytics into actionable strategy, prioritization, and resource allocation decisions.
- Excellent editorial judgment, a passion for BI’s core coverage areas, and a strong understanding of how to package journalism effectively for different audiences and platforms.
- Experience managing fast-moving, cross-functional workflows across editorial, video, audience, and business teams.
- Proven ability to integrate AI tools into the distribution workflow to enhance content packaging, automate routine tasks, and scale off-platform presence, where appropriate, without sacrificing editorial integrity.
- 10+ years of experience in media distribution strategies.
Key Responsibilities
Strategy & Business Development Partnership
- Lead Business Insider’s off-platform distribution strategy across social, syndication, and emerging platforms.
- Serve as the primary editorial partner to the Business Development team on syndication strategy, partner performance, and off-platform revenue opportunities.
- Establish a unified framework for evaluating platform ROI, resource allocation, and distribution priorities across the newsroom.
- Identify opportunities to expand Business Insider’s engagement and monetization across existing and emerging platforms.
Distribution & Platform Management
- Oversee distribution strategy and performance across YouTube, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, X, Apple News, Yahoo, MSN, SmartNews, and future partner platforms.
- Ensure editorial and video teams are aligned on distribution priorities, workflows, and best practices.
- Drive platform-specific content optimization strategies for stories, video, newsletters, live events, and short-form content.
- Monitor platform trends, algorithm changes, and competitive shifts to maintain audience growth and engagement.
Analytics & Optimization
- Establish KPIs and reporting frameworks for off-platform performance, audience growth, and partner success.
- Use platform and audience data to identify growth opportunities, optimize workflows, and inform strategic decision-making.
- Partner with newsroom leaders to prioritize platforms and initiatives based on performance and business impact.
Salary & Benefits
- Salary range: $170,000-$180,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
