This highly visible position is responsible for managing and coordinating every aspect of maintaining and operating Telesat’s Allan Park earth station, Mount Jackson teleport, Canadian high throughput satellite gateways, tracking-telemetry and commanding (TTAC) ground stations and the Allan Park Repair Center operations. The position provides leadership and direction to a highly skilled multi-disciplined team of 14 individuals in areas such as strategic planning, facility operation and maintenance, supplier negotiations, performance management, equipment maintenance, safety awareness, training and documentation.
The role is crucial in steering the Central Teleports and Repair Center teams and other non-direct reports towards accomplishing the organization's specific short-term objectives and broad long-term goals.
The managerial responsibilities associated with this role may grow over time to encompass additional operational functions within GEO Network Operations, driven by resource realignment in support of Light Speed growth opportunities.

Post-secondary education (degree/diploma) in a high-tech telecommunications field

A minimum 10 years of directly related experience in satellite systems.

Excellent knowledge of satellite telecommunications services and a keen interest in the continuing evolution of telecommunications technology.

Excellent knowledge and experience with RF spectrum analysis.

Strong working knowledge and experience with common satellite network topologies, earth station technology, VSAT access network techniques, RF modulation schemes, network performance tools and spectrum analyzers.

Ability to foster a flexible, innovative, team-based environment focused on solutions, results and continuous improvement.

Proven leadership capabilities and experience in organizing, implementation, and process evaluation.

Skillful at building and maintaining internal and external business relationships.

Excellent oral and written communication and presentation skills.

Fluent in English, written and spoken required. Bilingual in French is ideal.

Working environment is a comfortable indoor office environment at a traditional motorized sit/stand workstation.

Occasional travel is expected, domestic and/or international, if required

Readily available on a rotating on-call with other managers after business hours and weekends.
