About AuthZed:

We are the creators and maintainers of SpiceDB and the authorization infrastructure that companies around the world depend on to keep their engineering teams focused on what matters most - their own product.

We are a Series A company, fixing broken access control with products that eliminate complex permission management while delivering enterprise-scale performance and consistent access control.

AuthZed is a fully remote company with employees across the US, Canada, and Europe. We’re a hardworking and close-knit group with a software-driven culture! We bring integrity to all our interactions, fostering confidence in decision making - trusting and respecting each voice on our team, every day.

Company Values:

  • Agency: Everyone should have the capability, freedom, and confidence to bring about changes to our business and product. Organizational processes exist to clearly define our goals, but not restrict how progress is made.

  • Collaboration: Success is defined in various dimensions and no single person can be an expert in all of them. Without valuing the opinions of others, finding compromises, and sharing mutual trust and respect, you cannot arrive at the best possible solution.

  • Open-mindedness: Without asking questions, testing assumptions, and questioning our pre-existing biases we risk operating within an echo-chamber. We celebrate the representation of diverse perspectives and backgrounds as a catalyst for creating an inclusive work environment that everyone can appreciate.

About the Role:

As a Solutions Engineer, you will help qualify and close opportunities with customers and provide technical expertise through supporting technical evaluations, sales presentations, and product demonstrations.

What you’ll own:

  • The technical win in deals by demonstrating that AuthZed meets the prospect's requirements

  • Daily collaboration with Account Executives in a pre-sales role to understand and document customer technical requirements, performance Service Level Objectives (SLOs), consistency requirements, and software architecture

  • Building live permissions schema design sessions, tailored solutions leveraging our products, and designing Proof of Concepts (PoCs) to validate solutions with prospects

  • Leading virtual and in-person demos and deep-dive technical sessions

  • Identifying product gaps and communicating these to our product team to help shape the future of our offerings

  • Creation, improvement, and maintenance of dynamic customer demos, troubleshooting technical issues to ensure customer success

What you bring:

  • Experience: Minimum 3 years in a solutions engineering role or similar technical position, preferably in a customer-facing capacity

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a relevant field. Directly related work experience will also be considered in lieu of formal education

  • Technical Proficiency:

    • Working proficiency in a modern backend language (Go, Python, Java, or Node preferred)

    • Hands-on experience with relational databases (e.g., Postgres)

    • Proficient in designing and deploying solutions in cloud environments (AWS, GCP, Azure) and managing Kubernetes clusters

    • Experience integrating against APIs, including handling streams and pagination

  • Communication and Analytical Skills: Strong abilities to diagnose and solve complex technical issues, recommend solutions based on customer requirements, and effectively communicate both technical and business requirements to diverse audiences, including internal engineering and product teams

  • Client Interaction: Proven track record of conducting training sessions, demos, and presentations to stakeholders of various technical levels

  • Flexibility and Adaptability: Comfortable with ambiguous and changing requirements, with a rapid ability to learn new technical concepts

Extra shine:

  • Open Source Involvement: Experience working with and contributing to open-source software projects

  • Advanced Architecture and Software Knowledge:

    • Experience building and maintaining authorization for an app that you or you and your team built

    • Experience integrating against gRPC APIs

    • Experience with graph databases

    • Understanding of distributed systems concepts, including committing data to multiple databases using patterns like change data capture (CDC), message queues, two-phase commit protocol (2PC), and workflow engines like Temporal

    • Hands-on experience building agents or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) systems

  • CRM: Experience with CRM systems

Travel Expectations:

  • Typically 3 to 4 days per month, mostly domestic travel to customer sites or internal team offsites

Life at AuthZed:

  • A supported environment where your ideas lead to real impact

  • Competitive salary based on experience

  • Stock options at an early-stage startup

  • Comprehensive benefits including healthcare (US-based) and other insurance

  • Fully remote

  • Twice-yearly travel for team offsites focused on team bonding, collaboration, and having fun!
