Job Summary:
The Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing all nursing and medical assistant staff at the facility level. This leadership role ensures safe and effective delivery of medical services within a behavioral health setting, including medication management, vitals monitoring, infection control, and crisis response. The Director of Nursing collaborates closely with the Executive Director, Clinical Director, and Medical Director to maintain compliance, training, and quality care.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

● Supervise nurses (LVNs/RNs), medical assistants, and client care coordinators.

● Oversee medication administration, detox protocols, health assessments, and urgent medical needs in a facility with 80 beds.

● Maintain medication inventory and secure storage per regulatory standards.

● Ensure compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, Joint Commission/state licensing standards.

● Coordinate with pharmacy providers and external medical services as needed.

● Provide or assign nursing staff for daily vitals, observations, and follow-up care.

● Lead infection control planning and health/safety procedures.

● Respond to medical crises and escalate to Medical Director or EMS appropriately.

● Participate in treatment team meetings to support integrated care.

● Train, schedule, and evaluate nursing and support staff; assist with hiring and onboarding.

Qualifications:

● Active, RN license in the state of Texas required.

● 3+ years of nursing experience, preferably in behavioral health, detox, or residential care.

● Prior supervisory or nurse leadership experience required.

● Knowledge of detox protocols, psychotropic medications, and infection control.

● Experience with EMR documentation and nursing assessments.

● Current CPR/BLS certification; knowledge of first aid/emergency protocols.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

● Facility-based setting involving client interaction, physical assessments, and movement throughout the building.

● Requires ability to stand, lift, and respond quickly to emergencies.

● On-call availability or flexible scheduling may be required, including evenings/weekends.

FLSA Classification:
This position is Exempt and is not eligible for overtime under federal and state wage and hour laws.
