Forward Deployed Engineer
Fluency
Posted about 13 hours ago
We're looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to join Fluency full-time. You will work directly inside customer organizations, taking what our platform discovers and building the automations, agents, and workflows that deliver the change.
Fluency's work ontology platform is a system that maps how work actually happens across an organization. It captures the tools people use, the steps they take, and the data that moves between them, then turns all of that into a structured model of the work. It uses that model to surface high-value processes with clear automation potential.
You'll use Fluency's platform to understand the work, then build automations and agents in the customer environment. The platform identifies the opportunity. You validate the workflow, build the automation, and get it working inside the customer environment.
This is an in-person role based in San Francisco, five days a week. It involves up to 25% travel globally. English fluency is required.
Key Responsibilities
Deploy inside customer environments and own transformation delivery end to end.
Build automations, agents, and workflows based on processes discovered by Fluency's work ontology platform. This ranges from simple programmatic automations, to multi-step AI agents, to workflows that support teams and individual users.
Feed Fluency's ontology, process, and work definitions into agents so they handle real edge cases and boundary conditions in production.
Work with customer engineering teams to integrate automations into existing systems, or build and own them independently.
Work through incomplete requirements across customer teams, governance constraints, implementation details, and production rollout.
Measure outcomes using Fluency's ROI and productivity tooling to show before-and-after impact.
Report back to product on how the platform performs in real customer environments. You'll be the closest person to that signal.
Contribute to the core product and use what you learn in customer environments to inform product decisions.
What We Are Looking For
Strong full-stack or backend engineering skills, production-quality code in Python and/or TypeScript/Node
Hands-on experience building and shipping AI agents, workflow automations, or process integrations in real environments
Comfortable scoping and delivering work when requirements are incomplete and the environment is unfamiliar
Ability to work across a wide variety of enterprise tools and systems without needing a pre-paved path
Clear communication. You will regularly translate between technical constraints, delivery tradeoffs, and implementation risks for customer teams.
Based in San Francisco. Willing to travel up to 25% globally.
Nice to Have
Experience with RPA, process mining, or enterprise automation tooling
Familiarity with LLM orchestration frameworks and agent design patterns
Background in consulting, solutions engineering, or a forward-deployed professional services capacity
Experience with process improvement, operations, or business transformation
Experience deploying on AWS Lambda, ECS, or similar infrastructure
Ability to read and work within unfamiliar codebases quickly
About Fluency
Fluency builds a platform that captures how work actually happens inside large organizations, measures productivity and process conformance, and analyzes where AI can do the work.
We capture observable work data across tools and systems, structure it into a model of how work runs, and use it to measure productivity, check process conformance, and analyze where AI changes the work.
Fluency is looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer to embed inside our enterprise customers and ship the automations, agents, and workflows surfaced by our ontology platform.
