Senior Metallurgist
We are seeking an experienced and technically strong Senior Metallurgist to play a key role in the continued growth and optimisation of our processing operations in Burnie, North West Tasmania.
This is a unique opportunity to join a growing mining and processing operation at a critical stage of expansion, with a strong focus on flotation performance, operational improvement and commissioning support. Reporting into senior operational leadership, the role will provide hands-on technical expertise while also contributing strategically to plant performance, recovery optimisation and long-term operational capability.
The successful candidate will bring demonstrated experience in scheelite flotation and a practical, solutions-focused approach to metallurgy and plant operations.
About the Role
As the Senior Metallurgist, you will provide technical leadership across flotation operations, with a strong focus on scheelite recovery optimisation, plant commissioning and continuous improvement initiatives.
The role is both operational and strategic in nature and will involve close collaboration with production, maintenance and leadership teams to ensure safe, stable and efficient plant performance.
You will be instrumental in supporting the flotation plant expansion project and driving improvements in recovery, throughput, reagent performance and operational consistency.
Key Responsibilities
Technical & Operational Support
- Provide day-to-day metallurgical support to plant operations and production teams.
- Monitor and optimise scheelite flotation performance and recovery outcomes.
- Analyse plant performance data and identify improvement opportunities.
- Conduct metallurgical test work, investigations and process reviews.
- Troubleshoot operational and process-related issues in a timely manner.
- Develop and refine flotation strategies, reagent regimes and operating parameters.
Commissioning & Project Support
- Lead and support commissioning activities associated with flotation plant expansion works.
- Assist with plant ramp-up, performance stabilisation and operational readiness activities.
- Support commissioning plans, test work programs and performance reporting.
- Work collaboratively with engineering, maintenance and operations teams during project execution.
Continuous Improvement
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives across processing operations.
- Identify opportunities to improve recovery, throughput, reliability and cost performance.
- Support implementation of best-practice metallurgical and operational standards.
- Contribute to operational planning and medium-term process improvement strategies.
Leadership & Capability Development
- Mentor and support operators and operational personnel where required.
- Provide technical guidance and coaching to improve plant understanding and capability.
- Foster a collaborative, safety-focused and performance-driven culture.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will be a technically capable and practical metallurgist with demonstrated experience in scheelite flotation and mineral processing operations.
You will have the ability to work effectively both on the plant floor and at a strategic level, with strong analytical capability and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
Skills & Experience
- Proven experience in scheelite flotation is essential.
- Strong background in metallurgy, mineral processing or plant operations.
- Demonstrated ability to optimise flotation performance and recovery.
- Experience supporting or leading plant commissioning activities highly regarded.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting and reporting capability.
- Ability to work collaboratively across operational and technical teams.
- Practical and hands-on approach to operational support.
Qualifications
- Degree in Metallurgy, Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
