Salary range: $40-45/ hourly dependent upon experience 

Bargaining unit:  Non-Bargaining

Schedule Exact modules/date will be further discussed in interview process. Monday & Wednesday 6-9 pm (online) Saturday’s 9 am – 4 pm (face to face on campus) 

 

### Your Opportunity
The Nursing Unit Assistant (NUA) Instructor is responsible for delivering high-quality, student-centered instruction that prepares learners for administrative support roles within acute care and healthcare settings. This role integrates theoretical knowledge with applied skills, equipping students with the competencies required to function effectively as part of an interdisciplinary healthcare team.
The instructor supports student success through engaging instruction, hands-on training, and ongoing assessment, with a strong focus on unit coordination, patient communication, and hospital-based administrative processes. Working collaboratively with the Program Coordinator and instructional team, the instructor ensures consistent, industry-aligned program delivery and prepares students for successful practicum experiences and entry into the healthcare workforce.
### Functions and Duties
Instruction: Deliver comprehensive instruction in core Nursing Unit Assistant competencies, including medical terminology, patient registration and communication, unit coordination, chart management, admissions, transfers and discharges (ATD), and hospital information systems.
Lesson Planning & Curriculum Delivery: Implement and adapt lesson plans aligned with program learning outcomes and current healthcare standards. Develop and update instructional materials to reflect evolving hospital practices and student needs.
Practical Training: Facilitate applied learning through simulations and scenario-based activities that reflect real hospital unit environments, preparing students for practicum and workplace expectations.
Student Assessment: Conduct evaluations, provide constructive feedback, input student assessments in a timely manner, and support student progress throughout the program.
Professional Standards: Ensure a respectful, organized, and professional learning environment that meets institutional and industry expectations.
Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with the Program Coordinator and other instructors to ensure cohesive program delivery. Foster open communication to support student success and maintain alignment with institutional goals.

 

 
### Education and Experience
Certificate or diploma as a Nursing Unit Assistant or in a related healthcare field; an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
Minimum three (3) years of recent experience in a hospital or acute care setting, preferably in a unit clerk/NUA role.
Previous teaching or instructional experience in post-secondary, vocational training, or a similar setting is preferred.
Current knowledge of hospital processes, including admissions, transfers, discharges, and electronic health record systems (Meditech).
Proficiency with digital tools, including Microsoft Office and Learning Management Systems (LMS); online teaching experience is an asset.
### Skills and Abilities
Strong practical expertise in hospital unit coordination, patient communication, and administrative workflows.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and inspire adult learners.
Proficiency in lesson planning, classroom management, and adapting teaching methods to diverse learning styles.
Commitment to fostering an inclusive, supportive, and professional learning environment.
Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure effective program delivery and student success.
