JOB SUMMARY

SoLa Impact is seeking a highly dedicated Construction Engineering Intern to assist alongside SoLa's high-achieving team. In this internship role you will support the day-to-day tasks of SoLa Impact's Construction Department, while also gaining knowledge of the fundamental aspects of the construction industry.

Location: The Beehive, 961 E. 61st Street, Los Angeles, CA 90001
Compensation: $20-$24 per hour
Schedule: 9:00AM-5:00PM, M-F

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Support the construction team in the execution and design and engineering of affordable housing projects
  • Conduct research on building materials, building material costs, procurement lead times, constructability methods, and energy-efficient operation practices to support sustainable building practices
  • Monitor and document construction work in progress in Procore (e.g., RFIs, Submittals & Substitutions, and Pending Change Orders)
  • Assist with the preparation of project reports and documentation (e.g., GC’s monthly reports, RFI log, Submittal log, Buyout log, Change Order log, progress photos)
  • Assist with project closeout at the completion of construction (e.g., punch lists, startup & operating manuals, material warranties, and labor warranties)
  • Assist with schedule tracking and controls (e.g., baseline, variances, trending)
  • Review construction drawings and specifications to ensure consistency and completeness
  • Scope quantity takeoff from plans and in-person field and field condition verifications for bidding and bid analyses

Requirements

  • Must currently be enrolled in Construction Management, Architecture, Structural Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Data Science Engineering degree program.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to commute to and from their work location, between facilities and job sites when necessary
  • Proficient skills in Microsoft Excel, Procore, P6, MS Project
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to read and understand project plans and specifications, including technical construction drawings
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment
  • Ability to follow direction and manage specific tasks to completion
  • Ability to learn and adapt to computer based programs and databases
  • Eagerness to learn and positive attitude
  • Knowledge of the design & construction industries preferred
