About The Role:
This is a full-time, on-site 3-month summer internship running from June 15th to September 15th.
We're looking for a curious, motivated developer to join our Utilities engineering team for the summer. This isn't a "sit in the corner" internship — we want you working alongside the team on real products used by millions of people worldwide.
The role is deliberately broad. We'll describe it as "full stack" because you'll have the chance to get involved in a wide range of tasks — from backend services and desktop application code to UI work and tooling. While you'll touch many areas, you'll also own a dedicated project that you'll take from idea to delivery during your time with us. By the end of the summer, you'll have something tangible and complete to show for your work.
You'll be supported by experienced engineers and your manager throughout, with regular check-ins and guidance — but we'll also give you the space to explore, make decisions, and learn by doing.
In this role, you will:
Work on a defined project from start to finish — scoping, designing, building, testing, and delivering
Contribute to multiple areas of the codebase, getting exposure to different technologies and layers of the stack
Collaborate with engineers, QA, product, and design colleagues in a cross-functional team
Participate in team ceremonies, code reviews, and technical discussions
Learn how software is built, tested, and shipped at scale in a global organisation
About You:
Currently enrolled in a degree programme in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
Genuine curiosity and enthusiasm for software development across multiple areas — you don't need to be an expert in everything, but you should want to learn
Familiarity with programming fundamentals — data structures, algorithms, version control
Some experience (academic or personal projects) in at least one or two of: C++, Rust, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, or similar languages
Comfortable working in a team and communicating ideas clearly
Confident communicating in English, both written and spoken — this is the team's working language and you'll use it daily in meetings, code reviews, and collaboration with colleagues across multiple countries
Self-motivated, proactive, and happy to ask questions when you're stuck
Nice to have:
Experience with or interest in any of: Windows desktop development, web UI frameworks (e.g. Svelte, React), cloud platforms (e.g. GCP), or CI/CD tools
Curiosity about AI-assisted development and modern developer tooling
Interest in cybersecurity, privacy, or system optimisation
What’s Next:
The interview process consists of one stage.
You’ll have an online interview with Tom Kermode, where you’ll have the opportunity to discuss your experience and learn more about the role and the team.
