About Abound

We’re redefining consumer lending in the UK, and beyond. Using advanced AI and Open Banking data, we make fair, affordable personal finance available to more people. While traditional lenders rely almost entirely on credit scores, we look at the full financial picture - how much you spend, and what you can afford to repay to build a deeper, more accurate understanding of each customer's unique financial situation.

And we've shown it works at scale. We’ve issued over £1.3bn in loans directly to customers while delivering market-leading credit performance - for every 10 defaults the industry expects, we see only 3. We also reached profitability just 2.5 years after launch.

Backed by £2bn+ of funding from top-tier investors including Citi, GSR Ventures, and Deutsche Bank, we’re recognised as one of Europe’s fastest-growing fintechs (Sifted, CNBC). Now, we’re expanding into new markets and product lines - and we’re looking for ambitious people who want to learn fast, take ownership, and grow with us.

About the role

We’re looking for a Financial Accountant to help build a best-in-class finance function at Abound.

This is a hands-on role at the heart of a fast-scaling fintech - owning core accounting processes, improving systems, and helping us move quickly without losing control. You’ll go beyond traditional reporting, working closely with teams across the business to ensure our financials are accurate, scalable, and decision-useful.

This is a critical role within the Finance Team and for the right candidate, can be the launchpad for a rewarding career, opening clear pathways to broaden expertise, take on greater responsibility, and progress into senior and strategic roles at Abound.

At Abound, finance isn’t just about reporting the past - it’s about enabling better decisions for the future.

Who you are

  • A newly qualified accountant (ACA / ACCA / CIMA) with strong technical fundamentals

  • Experienced in a fast-paced or scaling environment (fintech, SaaS, or similar is a plus)

  • Strong experience with accounting software / ERP systems (ideally NetSuite)

  • Advanced Excel skills and comfortable working with large datasets

  • Detail-oriented, but commercially aware—you understand the why, not just the numbers

  • Comfortable with ambiguity—you use data, judgement, and common sense to move forward

  • Proactive and accountable—you take ownership and don’t wait to be told what to do

  • A team player who’s happy to challenge, collaborate, and step outside your role when needed

  • Motivated by impact—you care about building something that genuinely improves customers’ lives

What you’ll be doing

  • Own key areas of the month-end close (accruals, prepayments, revenue recognition)

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial reporting and ensure balance sheet integrity

  • Own bank reconciliations and maintain strong cash controls

  • Manage and improve AP & AR processes end-to-end

  • Own payroll accounting and oversee payment runs

  • Partner with wider team on variance analysis and performance insights

  • Improve and automate processes to support scale- move fast, but thoughtfully

  • Work cross-functionally (product, tech, ops) to improve financial data and controls

  • Support audits and ensure compliance with accounting standards

  • Help optimise and scale systems (including NetSuite)

  • Take ownership, solve problems, and continuously look for ways to do things better

What we offer

  • Everyone owns a piece of the company - equity

  • Hybrid with 3 days a week in the office

  • 25 days’ holiday a year, plus 8 bank holidays

  • 2 paid volunteering days per year

  • One month paid sabbatical after 4 years

  • Employee loan

  • Free gym membership

  • Team wellness budget to be active together - set up a yoga class, a tennis lesson or go bouldering
