About the Team
The Corporate Security (CorpSec) team at OpenAI is dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of our people and facilities. We provide intelligence-driven security programs that enable OpenAI's teams to focus on advancing artificial intelligence responsibly and securely.
About the Role
As an Executive Protection Operator, you will play a crucial role in safeguarding the well-being of OpenAI's executives and key employees. Your responsibilities will encompass providing security support during travel, events, and, when necessary, day-to-day operations. You will need to have proficiency in firearms handling and the legal authority to carry a firearm in the United States. You are a seasoned, collaborative security professional with a deep understanding of executive protection principles and a proven ability to navigate complex, dynamic security situations with discretion and tact.
This position is based in our San Francisco HQ. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week, though this role is expected to have a flexible schedule that aligns with the travel and operational needs of the executives you support. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.
In this role, you will:
Plan, coordinate, and execute secure transportation and protective operations for executives and key employees.
Conduct advance work, threat assessments, and route planning to mitigate security risks in both domestic and international environments.
Coordinate with internal stakeholders, protective intelligence, law enforcement, and vetted vendors to maintain an agile, credible protective posture.
Provide immediate response and crisis management during emergencies while preserving discretion and composure.
Support residential and travel security assessments and contribute to SOP development and continuous improvement.
Support the broader CorpSec mission—including internal and external event security and special projects—with a "no job too small" attitude.
Maintain current LEOSA / HR218 authority and the legal ability to carry a concealed firearm throughout the United States in support of executive protection operations.
Maintain a valid U.S. passport and readiness to travel internationally on short notice, including assignments in foreign and potentially hostile environments.
You might thrive in this role if you:
Have operational executive protection experience supporting C-suite executives, senior government officials, or other high-profile principals.
Have completed a recognized Executive Protection training program or served five or more years in a dignitary protection assignment with a federal, state, or local law enforcement agency.
Bring tactical medical training and demonstrated decision-making ability under pressure.
Understand foreign intelligence targeting tactics and tradecraft and have experience with mitigation strategies and counter-surveillance operations.
Demonstrate strong communication skills, discretion, and professionalism when working with senior leaders and external partners.
Are a team player who embraces a “no job too small” mindset and is willing to support a wide range of security operations.
Are willing to obtain California-specific licensing, including BSIS and related certifications, through company-supported training pathways.
