Junior Legal Counsel

Ebury Madrid Office - Hybrid: 4 days in the office, 1 day working from home per week

The Legal Department at Ebury is core to the functioning of the Ebury Group. It provides front-line advice to all parts of the Ebury Group on legal, regulatory and governance matters which contribute to Ebury’s growth every day.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and driven Junior Legal Counsel who is keen to work in a fast-paced, dynamic and growing company which is focused on building the Ebury brand.

The successful candidate will join our in-house legal team and support our core legal team in various finance, corporate, and commercial legal matters. The core legal team provides legal advice to key stakeholders and is pivotal to Ebury’s development on a global scale. The person who fills this role will report to the relevant Senior Legal Counsel.

The ideal candidate will be a fully qualified lawyer in a jurisdiction relevant to the Ebury Group and have excellent communication, research, and organisational skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Review, draft, and update commercial agreements, client terms and conditions, and legal templates.
  • Advice on the design and implementation of new products and expansion into new markets.
  • Collaborate with front office, corporate development, product, and other departments to resolve day-to-day queries.
  • Act as board secretary for certain Ebury subsidiaries, preparing minutes and handling corporate governance queries.
  • Managing the quarterly company governance cycles.
  • Assist with establishing new entities.
  • Represent Ebury in interactions with clients, counterparties, banking partners, industry bodies, and other third parties.
  • Work closely with the compliance team to advise on global payment and financial service regulations (e.g., PSD2, PSRs, and MiFID).
  • Prepare playbooks, procedures, and self-service materials.
  • Participate in delivering relevant training and awareness programs across the organisation.

Essential skills requirements include:

  • Complete fluency in English (C1 or C2).
  • A legal qualification in a jurisdiction where Ebury has a significant presence is desirable but not essential; applicants holding legal qualifications from other jurisdictions will also be considered.
  • A proactive mindset and an ability to communicate effectively in practical terms with stakeholders at all levels of the group including senior management.
  • At least 2 -3 years of post qualification experience either in private practice or in-house,
  • A genuine enthusiasm for engaging with different areas of law, reflecting a commitment to developing as a well-rounded generalist lawyer.
  • An ability in a fast paced environment to prioritise and manage a wide range of competing priorities (with support from other team members and external advisers where necessary).

The following skills and experience are not mandatory but would be of interest:

  • Fluency in a third language.
  • Experience working on either commercial contracts or on payment regulatory matters.
  • Company secretarial or corporate governance experience.
