About the Team
Our team is responsible for assessing the safety of our autonomous vehicles. We work with real-world driving data, simulation, and engineering teams to answer questions like: Is our autonomy safe enough to deploy? Where does it fail? How is it improving over time? We design the frameworks and taxonomies used to classify safety-critical events, review thousands of such events from on-road and simulated driving, and turn them into structured signal that engineering and product teams act on. The output of our work directly informs deployment readiness decisions across the locations where we operate.
About the Role
We are looking for a Safety Performance Analyst who will help us measure and improve the safety of our autonomous vehicles. You will review safety-critical events from real and simulated driving, classify them using our internal framework, and turn raw events into a signal that drives engineering and product decisions. Beyond reviewing events, you will help shape the framework itself — the taxonomies, criteria, and processes we use to evaluate AV safety. The role suits someone who is comfortable spending hours looking at driving scenes one by one, and at the same time wants to think about how to make that work scale.
What You’ll Do
- Review safety-critical events from on-road and simulated driving.
- Classify events using our internal framework; help refine and extend the framework over time.
- Maintain and improve labeling guidelines; resolve ambiguous edge cases and keep reviewers aligned.
- Identify systemic patterns and surface them to safety, engineering, and product teams.
- Use Python and SQL to slice labeled data, build reports, and monitor drift over time.
- Help integrate LLM-based tools into classification and review workflows
What You’ll Need
- Prior experience in an analytical role that required both quantitative work and careful judgment.
- Working knowledge of Python and SQL for data exploration and analysis.
- Solid understanding of probability and statistics.
- High attention to detail and the ability to stay focused during extended review of complex driving scenes.
- Clear written communication for guidelines, reports, and cross-team coordination
Nice to Have
- Strong driving intuition — you can tell good driving from bad and clearly explain the difference.
- Experience with AV, robotics, or another safety-critical autonomous system.
- Background in classification or large-scale structured review work — trust & safety, aviation safety, insurance claims, or similar.
