This individual oversees the planning and execution of multiple projects running simultaneously across various job sites, manages manpower allocation, and works closely with Project Managers to support accurate job bidding and project execution. The Superintendent is also a key driver of Loenbro's safety culture in the field and is responsible for ensuring full compliance with all environmental regulations, including hazardous waste handling, storage, and disposal requirements. This is a hands-on leadership role that demands a strong command of industrial coatings processes, an eye for quality, and the ability to keep multiple crews operating efficiently without sacrificing safety or workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

Production Management & Scheduling

  • Plan, schedule, and manage multiple coating projects across various job sites simultaneously, ensuring deadlines are met and resources are utilized efficiently.
  • Develop and adjust daily manpower plans based on project priorities, crew availability, site conditions, and workload changes throughout the week.
  • Coordinate with Project Managers to understand project scope, specifications, logistics, and scheduling requirements before project mobilization.
  • Monitor project progress against schedules and address delays, productivity challenges, or quality concerns before they impact project completion.
  • Ensure proper sequencing of surface preparation, coating application, curing, inspection, and turnover activities across all active projects.

Estimating & Bid Support

  • Work directly with Project Managers during the bidding process to provide accurate labor, material, equipment, and productivity input for coating project estimates.
  • Review project specifications and coating systems early in the bidding process to identify potential challenges and ensure bids accurately reflect field conditions.
  • Track project costs against estimates and report variances to Project Managers to support continuous improvement in future bids and project execution strategies.

Safety Leadership – Loenbro Safety Initiative

  • Champion and lead Loenbro’s safety program across all project sites, ensuring it is actively implemented and consistently followed by all field personnel.
  • Conduct and document regular safety meetings, toolbox talks, and Job Hazard Analyses (JHAs) specific to coating, blasting, confined space, elevated work, and surface preparation activities.
  • Enforce the use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all coating-related tasks, including abrasive blasting, spray application, solvent handling, and hazardous material exposure.
  • Maintain a zero-tolerance culture for unsafe work practices and ensure all employees understand they have the authority and obligation to stop unsafe work.
  • Coordinate with the Safety Department on incident reporting, near-miss investigations, corrective actions, and ongoing safety improvement initiatives.

Hazardous Waste Management & Environmental Compliance

  • Maintain accurate records of all hazardous waste generated during coating operations, including waste coatings, solvents, blast media, contaminated materials, and related byproducts.
  • Ensure proper labeling, segregation, storage, transportation, and disposal of hazardous waste in accordance with EPA, OSHA, and applicable state and local regulations.
  • Coordinate waste disposal activities with approved hazardous waste vendors and maintain all associated manifests and regulatory documentation.
  • Conduct regular audits of hazardous waste storage and handling practices at project sites to ensure ongoing compliance and immediately address deficiencies.
  • Stay current on environmental regulations related to industrial coatings operations and proactively update field procedures as requirements change.

Field Operations & Site Standards

  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe work areas at all project locations while establishing and enforcing housekeeping standards for all crew members.
  • Ensure equipment is properly maintained, inspected, cleaned, and stored, including blast equipment, spray systems, compressors, containment systems, and associated tools.
  • Conduct routine site walkthroughs to identify and correct safety hazards, housekeeping concerns, equipment issues, and operational inefficiencies.
  • Coordinate with maintenance personnel, vendors, and project teams to ensure equipment availability and minimize downtime.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly supervise coatings crew members, foremen, and helpers, providing clear direction, performance feedback, mentorship, and accountability.
  • Identify training needs and ensure all crew members are properly trained in coating application techniques, surface preparation standards, safety procedures, and quality requirements.
  • Foster a positive, professional, and team-oriented field culture that reflects Loenbro’s core values.
  • Participate in hiring decisions, workforce planning, and onboarding of new field personnel as project demands grow.

Quality

  • Monitor and enforce quality standards across all coating operations to ensure compliance with project specifications, client requirements, and industry standards.
  • Produce and maintain paint logs, inspection reports, and quality documentation as required by project specifications and client requirements.
  • Coordinate inspections and verify that surface preparation, environmental conditions, coating application, and final film thickness requirements meet applicable standards.

Qualifications

Required

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in industrial coatings, with a minimum of 3 years in a supervisory or superintendent role.
