Structural Steel Fabricator & Fitter
Location: Arlington, TN
Pay Rate: Starting at $21/hour, depending on experience
Schedule: 2nd Shift | Monday – Friday | 4:00 PM – 3:00 AM
(Some Saturday overtime may be required)
Position Summary
A growing manufacturing and fabrication operation is seeking a skilled Structural Steel Fabricator & Fitter to support production activities in a fast-paced shop environment. This role is responsible for assembling and fitting structural steel components using fabrication drawings, layout tools, and industry-standard fabrication techniques.
The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience working with structural steel assemblies, reading shop drawings, and preparing materials for welding and final production.
### Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Read and interpret fabrication drawings, blueprints, weld symbols, and layout specifications
Fit and assemble structural steel components including beams, columns, stairs, rail systems, and miscellaneous metal parts
Perform layout, measuring, cutting, and alignment work according to production specifications
Prepare assemblies for welding by tack fitting and ensuring proper alignment
Verify measurements, fit-up quality, and structural alignment prior to final weld operations
Operate fabrication equipment such as band saws, mag drills, grinders, ironworkers, plasma cutters, and oxy-fuel torches
Safely use overhead cranes, rigging equipment, and material handling tools to move steel materials throughout the facility
Maintain an organized and safety-focused work environment while meeting production goals and deadlines
Assist with general fabrication and production support as needed
### Qualifications
Minimum of 2 years of experience in structural steel fabrication, fitting, or related metalworking environments preferred
Ability to read and understand blueprints, weld symbols, and fabrication drawings
Experience performing steel layout, fitting, and assembly work
Familiarity with fabrication shop equipment, hand tools, and measuring devices
Ability to lift and maneuver heavy materials and remain on your feet throughout the shift
Prior experience using overhead cranes and rigging equipment is a plus
Strong attention to detail, craftsmanship, and workplace safety practices
### Preferred Welding Experience
Experience performing Flux-Cored Arc Welding (FCAW) within a fabrication or production setting
