An experienced and motivated Highway / Rail Surveyor responsible for delivering high-quality survey data across rail and civil engineering projects. The role involves carrying out topographical, engineering and monitoring surveys, operating a range of survey instrumentation, processing survey data, and supporting site teams with accurate setting out and as-built information.

The successful candidate will work safely within rail and highway environments, ensuring compliance with industry standards, client specifications, and company procedures.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Follow all health, safety and environmental procedures within rail and highway environments.
  • Carry out topographical, engineering and as-built surveys on rail and highway infrastructure projects.
  • Undertake track monitoring and deformation surveys using total stations and associated monitoring equipment.
  • Complete rail gauging surveys including laser sweep, platform gauging and OLE clearance measurements.
  • Perform static laser scanning and point cloud data capture.
  • Establish and maintain survey control networks.
  • Conduct setting out for civil engineering and piling works.
  • Operate Total Stations, GPS/GNSS equipment, Digital Levels and Laser Scanners.
  • Process and validate survey data using relevant software packages.
  • Produce accurate site records, survey reports and daily documentation.
  • Ensure all surveys are completed in accordance with Network Rail, highway authority and company standards.
  • Liaise effectively with engineers, site teams, project managers and clients.
  • Maintain survey equipment and ensure regular calibration checks are completed.
  • Work independently or as part of a survey team on day or night shifts as required.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Proven experience within rail and/or highway surveying environments.
  • Strong understanding of topographical surveying, engineering surveying, track monitoring, survey control, laser scanning and rail gauging.
  • Experience processing survey data and producing deliverables.
  • Good understanding of rail possession working and site safety procedures.
  • Ability to interpret drawings and engineering information.
  • Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet project deadlines.
  • Full UK Driving Licence.

Preferred Qualifications & Competencies

  • PTS
  • DCCR
  • Land Surveying qualification or equivalent
  • Experience using survey processing and CAD software

  • Network Rail infrastructure projects
  • Highway asset surveys
  • OLE gauging surveys
  • Static scanning and point cloud registration
  • Monitoring and deformation analysis
  • Working within multidisciplinary engineering teams
