Position Summary

We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Product Liability Investigator to investigate defective products, manage and preserve evidence, and assist attorneys in complex civil litigation. In this role, you will work directly in the field and collaborate closely with attorneys, case staff, and outside experts to build strong, well-documented cases on behalf of injured clients. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, is comfortable with significant travel, and brings sharp analytical instincts and a genuine commitment to justice.

Key Responsibilities:

Case Evaluation & Investigation

  • Investigate defective products and assist attorneys in building complex civil litigation cases
  • Quickly evaluate case details to identify potential at-fault parties and determine case viability
  • Research ownership, management, and corporate structure of defendant parties using public and proprietary databases
  • Assess the need for independent field investigation and coordinate with third-party investigation firms as appropriate
  • Conduct social media and open-source intelligence (OSINT) research to support case development

Evidence Management

  • Secure, catalog, and maintain physical evidence — including malfunctioning machinery, defective consumer goods, and faulty auto parts — ensuring chain-of-custody integrity throughout the litigation process
  • Photograph, document, and store evidence in accordance with firm protocols and legal standards
  • Coordinate logistics for evidence transport, storage, and expert access

Research & Case Development

  • Conduct comprehensive research on manufacturers, distributors, and retailers involved in defective product cases
  • Track safety recalls, regulatory filings, and prior lawsuits to identify and establish patterns of negligence
  • Prepare detailed investigative reports and case development summaries for attorney review

Witness & Expert Coordination

  • Interview victims and witnesses to gather firsthand accounts and support causation analysis
  • Coordinate with scientific, medical, and economic experts to evaluate causation and damages
  • Schedule and facilitate expert site visits, product inspections, and depositions as needed

Documentation & Case Management

  • Draft precise case-opening documents and maintain accurate, up-to-date case files
  • Track deadlines and maintain case statuses across a high-volume caseload
  • Enter and manage case data within the firm’s case management system

Collaboration & Communication

  • Communicate findings clearly to attorneys and case managers, adapting communication style to the audience
  • Guide clients through highly emotional situations with empathy, professionalism, and clarity
  • Coordinate with external investigation vendors and court reporters
  • Provide regular status updates and flag issues requiring attorney attention in a timely manner

Qualifications:

Required

  • Associate degree or equivalent work experience in investigations, paralegal studies, criminal justice, or a related field
  • Investigation Experience: Prior background in law enforcement, criminal investigations, insurance adjusting, or legal investigation strongly preferred
  • Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills to guide clients through highly emotional situations and communicate findings clearly to attorneys and case managers
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills
  • Highly organized with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple deadlines simultaneously
  • Outstanding attention to detail and strong critical thinking ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; typing speed of at least 40 WPM
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in a fast-paced environment
  • Comfortable navigating legal and corporate databases

Preferred

  • Prior experience as an investigator, case manager, or legal assistant in a plaintiffs’ or personal injury law firm
  • Knowledge of employment labor laws, wage and hour regulations, or personal injury case types
  • Experience with legal case management software (e.g., Litify, Salesforce, or similar)
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

Working Conditions:

  • Office-based position with travel required approximately 75–80% of the time
  • Travel includes product evaluations, scene investigations, and direct client contact
  • Overnight trips are a regular expectation depending on case needs and geographic scope
  • National travel is required; candidates must be prepared to travel across the U.S. as cases demand
  • High-volume caseload requiring strong time management and prioritization
  • Occasional extended hours during peak periods or approaching deadlines
