About the Team

OpenAI’s Equity Programs and Compensation teams design and support compensation frameworks that help attract, retain, and motivate exceptional talent as we pursue our mission of ensuring artificial general intelligence benefits all of humanity. Together, these teams build thoughtful, scalable programs across cash and equity compensation, grounded in strong governance and disciplined stewardship.

Partnering closely with Finance, Legal, and People leaders, the teams develop competitive compensation programs and equity frameworks that align our people with OpenAI’s long-term success.

About the Role

We are hiring a Compensation Analyst, Equity and Executive Compensation to join OpenAI’s People team. This individual contributor role sits at the intersection of compensation, analytics, and finance, supporting thoughtful pay decisions through rigorous modeling, benchmarking, reporting, and decision support, with a focus on equity and executive compensation programs.

You will own key cross-functional analytical projects that inform compensation design, pay recommendations, budgets and forecasts, grant sizing, equity usage, dilution, and stock-based compensation considerations. You will navigate ambiguous problems, build repeatable tools and processes, and translate complex, sensitive data into clear recommendations and executive-ready materials.

This role is ideal for someone with strong compensation fundamentals, analytical depth, sound judgment, and a collaborative approach to solving complex, sensitive problems.

This role reports to our Head of Equity Programs.

In this role you will:

  • Support pay design for new-hire, refresh, promotion, recognition, retention, and executive programs through quantitative analysis and thoughtful recommendations.

  • Build and maintain analytical models for compensation programs, including pay outcomes, equity grants, equity usage, dilution, stock-based compensation, budgets, and scenario planning.

  • Drive key cross-functional compensation analytics projects from scoping through delivery, independently evaluating tradeoffs and aligning stakeholders on recommendations.

  • Partner with Finance on budgeting, forecasting, and analysis of financial tradeoffs across compensation programs.

  • Conduct market benchmarking and pay-design analyses, including market data reviews, pay positioning, and recommendation development.

  • Prepare clear, decision-ready materials for senior leaders while maintaining rigorous data integrity and confidentiality.

  • Collaborate with Total Rewards, HR Business Partners, Recruiting, and Equity Administration to support accurate execution and implementation of compensation programs.

You might thrive in this role if you have:

  • 5+ years of experience in compensation, finance, people analytics, or a related analytical field.

  • Strong financial modeling and analytical skills, including advanced Excel or Google Sheets capability and experience working with large, sensitive datasets.

  • Experience evaluating compensation design, market data, budgets, forecasts, or compensation program outcomes and translating analysis into business decisions.

  • Demonstrated ability to own complex, cross-functional projects, navigate ambiguity, influence stakeholders without formal authority, and develop repeatable solutions.

  • Experience with equity compensation, executive compensation, or other complex compensation programs is preferred.

  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain quantitative findings and tradeoffs to cross-functional stakeholders.

  • High integrity, ownership, and attention to detail when handling confidential compensation information.
