Sheet Metal Welder (MIG Process)
Location: Newport News, VA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 1st Shift
Pay: Starting at $18.00/hour (higher based on skills and experience)
Role Summary
We are looking for a skilled welder with experience in MIG processes to support fabrication and assembly of sheet metal components. This position involves hands-on work in a production environment where accuracy, consistency, and efficiency are key.
### Key Duties
Perform MIG welding on sheet metal in flat, vertical, and overhead positions
Fit, align, and secure components using jigs, fixtures, and clamps
Interpret blueprints, job orders, and welding symbols to ensure proper fabrication
Inspect completed welds using measuring tools such as calipers and templates
Work with a range of materials including steel, aluminum, and other alloys
Complete additional tasks such as tack welding, grinding, heat bending, and assembly
Select appropriate welding techniques based on material and project requirements
Maintain welding equipment and perform basic troubleshooting or upkeep
Meet production targets while maintaining quality standards
Follow all safety guidelines and maintain a clean workspace
### Qualifications
At least 3 years of MIG welding experience
Experience working with light gauge sheet metal (.060” to 1/4” thickness)
Ability to read and understand technical drawings and welding symbols
Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality
Effective communication skills and ability to work within a team
### Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 100 lbs
- Capable of standing, walking, bending, twisting, and performing repetitive tasks
- Comfortable working in varying temperatures within a manufacturing setting
