Base Rate: $44.28 – $65.10
12 hr. shifts- paid overtime after 8 hours, resulting in an average rate of $51.66 – $75.95
Sign-on/Retention Bonus: $10,000 /Full Time Only
Job Summary: The Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) can be assigned to any unit within the floating cluster assigned, per the competency without any exception. The Float Pool RN is responsible for the provision and coordination of patient centered care in the assigned area and follows the nursing process in the safe delivery of patient care. The Float Pool RN coordinates care to achieve desired outcomes, participates in patient and family teaching and provides leadership by delegating and working cooperatively and collaboratively with ancillary, nursing and other patient team members in maintaining standards for professional nursing practice and performance in the clinical setting. The Float Pool RN must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and service to all patients in the assigned unit. Works in close coordination with the House Supervisors and Nursing Directors to troubleshoot staffing issues to ensure safe staffing throughout the hospital. Delivers comprehensive, regulatory-compliant nursing care across diverse acute care units, including Medical/Surgical, Telemetry, Behavioral Health, ED, ICU, PACU, as assigned. Actively and consistently contributes to the delivery of patient care, operations and communications, behaves in a manner consistent with the mission, vision, and values of Pipeline Health, upholding standards of AIDET (Acknowledge, Introduce, Duration, Explanation, Thank you) patient communication.

Essential Functions:
- Competent practicing in all units assigned within the float pool cluster, as defined:
o Float Pool RN I: Competent to float to Medical/Surgical, Telemetry and/or Behavioral Health in the facility/organization
- Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs.
- Accurately obtains & records results of assessment, care delivery, medication and administration, treatments, responses in the electronic medical record or on designation documentation packets.
- Adjust specialized medical equipment as needed, as well as interpret and record measurements.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and report adverse reactions to medication in a timely manner.
- Answer questions and educate patients and families on surgical procedures and post-surgery care.
- Maintain and update patient files, medical charts, and health records.
- Collects current symptoms, detailed patient history and consults and coordinates with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement & evaluate patient care plans.
- Organize and plan care of patients, with the ability to assess, determine treatment rationale and delivery, follow protocols, administer medications with accuracy and knowledge, educate patients.
- Attends and/or completes monthly, annual, and assigned training.
- Accurately obtains & records results of assessment, care delivery, medication and administration, treatments, responses in the electronic medical record or on designation documentation packets.
- Performs daily checks of and cleans equipment such as but not limited to monitors, code equipment, crash cart checks and oxygen cylinders.
- Prepares and administers medications using the rights established by the State Board of Nursing of state employed and facility policies and procedures.
- Uses clear, concise, professional communication with coworkers, patients, all customers internal and external.
- Use AIDET in interactions with patients and family members. Utilizes white boards for patient communication.
- Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including but not limited to patient transfer, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
- Monitors patients using proper equipment as ordered.
- Triages patients appropriately using the ESI (Emergency Severity Index) system.
- Arrives to work prepared to receive patient report on time.
- Provides discharge instructions, follow up care and education to patients and family members.
- Abides by HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) regulations.
- Utilizes SBAR (Situation, Background, Assessment, Recommendation) when communicating with oncoming shift, physician communication and giving report to ancillary or other nursing services.
- Utilize the Nursing Process ADPIE (Assessment, Diagnosis, Planning, Implementation, Evaluation) to secure individualized and methodical patient care.
- Speaks up to stop the line and escalates potential safety events if necessary.
- Acts quickly, appropriately and with a sense of urgency and prioritization in delivery of patient care.
- Stabilizes patients by coordinating with medical staff providers, EMS (Emergency Medical Services), coworkers, patients, and family members in a professional, calm manner.
- Stocks assigned rooms and keep work areas clean.
- Attends and/or completes monthly, annual, and assigned training.
- Other duties as assigned.
Wound Care: (added essential functions)
- Conduct comprehensive wound assessments to determine the etiology, depth, and extent of wounds.
- Develop and implement individualized wound care plans based on patient needs and evidence-based practices.
- Select and apply appropriate wound dressings and therapies, including negative pressure wound therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and bioengineered skin substitutes.
- Monitor wound progression and document healing at regular intervals.
- Educate patients and their families on wound care techniques, self-management strategies, and signs of infection.
- Stay up to date with the latest wound care research and clinical practice guidelines.
Behavioral Health:
- Provides direct patient care to a specified patient population.
- Appropriately manages the care of mental health patients, maintaining department standards of quality.
- Performs basic nursing procedures, specific unit-based nursing procedures and/or standardized procedures safely, accurately, and efficiently per policy and procedure.
- Incorporates interventions that communicate acceptance of the patients' beliefs, culture, religion, and socioeconomic background.
- Interact with patients on a one-to-one basis in a therapeutic manner.
- Monitors the safety of the therapeutic milieu and assists in the management of the assaultive patient.
- Participates in monitoring patient outcomes (short term and/or long term) to evaluate effectiveness of care provided and to identify organizational performance improvement opportunities.
- Understands the legal aspects of nursing and the importance of accurate and timely documentation according to standards and policy and procedures.
- Documents evaluate findings in the patient record.
- Demonstrates efforts to maintain and improve knowledge and skills through in-service and continuing education.
- Attend weekly multidisciplinary meetings to update and individualize master treatment plan according to needs of the patient.
Telemetry:
- Monitors EKG output and keeps doctors informed of any changes.
- Recording vital signs, including oxygen levels, blood pressure, breathing patterns etc.
