Ottignies, Belgium
At Carmeuse, you’re part of a family that’s over 4,500 people strong. What we do all starts with limestone, it’s that simple. But the products and services you will help create with it are simply fascinating. You’re improving the everyday lives of those around you. You’re helping to build solutions that make our water and air cleaner. You’re helping the agriculture industry to grow and sustain the food we need. You’re helping to make the steel for our cars, computers and homes. You’re even helping to make buildings stronger and eco-friendlier and roads safer … all around the world. For industries. For communities. For life.
As a Process Engineer, you drive the evolution of lime production technologies — both by supporting Carmeuse’s current core processes and by advancing the CO₂‑related innovations that will define the industry’s future. Working within the Decarbonization Team of Carmeuse Technologies and as a key member of the Process team, you take ownership of the full development cycle for point‑source carbon capture technologies applied to lime kilns. Your mission covers technology scouting, feasibility assessments, process modeling, pilot‑scale validation, and ultimately the deployment of industrial‑scale solutions.
Under the supervision of the Director Decarbonization Technologies, your responsibilities will be:
Technical watch
You will lead continuous technology scouting for carbon capture solutions and keep the internal technical database fully updated.
You will contact, meet, and engage with technology providers to gain a deep understanding of their solutions.
You will attend conferences, forums, and industry events to stay informed about emerging technologies and trends.
You will organize reference visits with suppliers, partners, or research institutions to evaluate technologies in real‑world conditions.
Feasibility Studies & Process Modeling
You will identify the most promising technologies and request, scope, and negotiate feasibility studies with external vendors.
You will follow and review feasibility studies, interacting closely with suppliers to clarify assumptions, challenge methodologies, and ensure technical robustness.
You will build in‑house process models to validate vendor proposals, compare alternatives, challenge and support internal decision‑making.
Pilot testing
You will develop proposals for pilot‑scale testing, either internally or with external partners, to de‑risk new technologies and strengthen internal know‑how.
You will prepare the technical and financial justification for pilot testing and search for potential funding opportunities.
You will work with suppliers to define all technical specifications of the pilot plant.
You will negotiate the best technical and commercial conditions for pilot‑scale equipment and services.
You will act as the process design lead for pilot plant implementation, commissioning, and testing.
You will analyze, document, and report pilot testing results, providing clear conclusions and recommendations.
Industrial Implementation
You will define and propose full‑scale decarbonization solutions for lime kilns.
You will work with project owners to develop business cases demonstrating the technical and economic viability of industrial carbon‑capture projects.
You will identify and pursue funding opportunities to support large‑scale deployment.
You will serve as the process design lead for industrial projects, guiding technical decisions and defining the optimal process configuration.
You will participate in installation, commissioning, and handover activities to ensure successful integration into operations.
MINIMUM SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
You hold a master’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Electromechanical, Chemical, Bio‑engineering, or related field).
You have a solid foundation in mechanical and physico‑chemical processes.
You bring 3+ years of experience in industrial processes or R&D, with hands‑on lab and field testing.
You have 3+ experience with carbon capture and gas processing (compression, purification, separation).
You have practical skills in analytical chemistry, combustion, fluid mechanics, emissions, process simulation & modeling, and CO₂/gas‑treatment technologies.
You are familiar with lime‑related applications (asset)
You work confidently with MS Office and process modeling tools such as Aspen.
You are fluent in English (minimum B2).
You are willing to travel up to 20% of your time.
You solve complex problems with a structured, analytical mindset.
You communicate clearly and explain technical concepts to varied audiences.
You work autonomously, stay organized, and pay strong attention to detail.
You prioritize effectively and deliver results on time.
You collaborate well and contribute positively to team dynamics.
You are curious, open‑minded, and comfortable in an international environment.
