Game Mathematician I - Chicago, IL

Department: Game Development

Employment Type: Full Time

Location: Chicago, Illinois - Black Hat Studio

Reporting To: Math Principal Manager

Description

We’re looking for a Game Mathematician who gets excited about probability, patterns, and building the logic behind the thrill. In this role, you won’t just crunch numbers — you’ll design and validate the math that powers slot, bingo, and lottery games played around the world. From RTP and prize structures to simulations and par sheets, your work will directly shape the player experience. If you enjoy turning complex math into real-world entertainment (and seeing your models come to life), this might be your perfect next move.

What Will You Be Doing?

As a Game Mathematician, you will transform mathematical designs into real-world gaming experiences across slot, bingo, and lottery products. You will:
  • Implement mathematical logic for prize determination in alignment with approved math designs
  • Develop and evaluate mathematical and statistical models for functionality and specification adherence
  • Assist in writing, reviewing, and validating production code
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with developers, producers, and compliance teams to ensure accurate math implementation
  • Use proprietary tools to generate slot, bingo, and lottery math files
  • Develop theoretical par sheets demonstrating probabilities and payout structures (via Excel calculations and/or simulation)
  • Support continuous improvement of tools, processes, and design methodologies
  • Contribute to internal production process improvements
  • Conduct industry research and apply insights to future product development
  • Own deliverables for one or more projects, ensuring deadlines are met
  • Assess mathematical feasibility of new mechanics and suggest optimized alternatives
  • Create clear, accurate, and thorough math documentation

Skills, Knowledge, & Expertise for the job:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, or a related field
  • Equivalent combination of education and relevant experience considered
  • 1–4 years of experience in a math-focused role (gaming/slot experience preferred)
  • Strong understanding of probability mathematics
  • Working knowledge of slot math design, processes, and requirements
  • Experience coding in at least one programming language
  • Experience working in a collaborative, cross-functional environment
  • Familiarity with casino-style games and regulatory markets
Experience or familiarity with:
  • C#
  • TypeScript / JavaScript
  • Python
  • SQL
  • Excel (advanced proficiency preferred)
  • Jira
  • Microsoft Office Suite

What's In It For You?

  • Be part of a global leader in gaming and technology innovation.
  • Work alongside a diverse team of professionals passionate about creating meaningful solutions.
  • Access to professional development opportunities and career growth.
  • Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits package.
  • A culture that values collaboration, creativity, and respect.
At IGT, we believe compensation should reflect you —your unique background, skills, experience, and even where you work. That’s why the compensation range for this role is $75,000 - $85,000 annually, with room to go higher or lower depending on the full picture. We also follow all local pay laws and collective bargaining agreements, so everything’s above board.

But wait—there’s more! Base pay is just the beginning. Our Total Rewards program is packed with perks:
  • Sales roles? You might earn commissions.
  • Other roles? You could snag discretionary bonuses.
  • Benefits galore: Health, dental, vision, life, accident & disability insurance.
  • Tuition reimbursement to keep your brain buzzing.
  • Paid time off to recharge.
  • Wellness programs to keep you feeling great.
  • Identity theft insurance for peace of mind.
  • 401(k) Savings Plan with company contributions to help you plan for the future.
Note: Some programs have eligibility requirements—but we’ll help you navigate those.
