Compensation

Contracted weekly rate: $600-$640

About the Job

 Senior Counselors, along with their co-counselors will be assigned to a group (bunk) of 15-18 campers, based by grade, Kindergarten-6th grade. Counselors will manage the daily routine and activities for their group. Senior Counselors are responsible for building relationships with and engaging campers in their care and executing the programmatic goals of camp.  

You’ll wow us by masterfully performing the following key duties and responsibilities:

• Work together as a team with their co-counselors to ensure the daily schedule is implemented. 
• Counselors must always set a behavior example for campers.  
• Counselors must participate in all activities with campers 
• Counselors will be changed out in swimwear and in the swimming pool monitoring campers during all swim portions of the daily schedule 
• Counselors are responsible for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of their bunk and campers.  
• Senior Counselors will manage the bunk clipboard and in partnership with co-counselors complete written incident and accident reports, as necessary. 
• Counselors working with Giborim (5th & 6th grade) will also drive Shalom Austin’s 15 passenger van to transport children to and from field trips. Counselors must have a valid driver’s license and a clean driving record for a minimum of 5 years. 
• Other duties as assigned.  

Requirements

• Eligible candidates must be at least 18 years old. Eligible candidates also must have graduated from High School or obtained a GED by the start of camp. Experience with Elementary Aged children (grades K-6) is preferred. JCamps staff are required to pass all criminal history background checks, including an FBI fingerprint check. They must also obtain a current CPR and First-Aid certification 
•  Senior Counselors are based out of the JCamps Office but will be expected to execute daily responsibilities throughout Shalom Austin’s campus. Senior Counselors will utilize specific areas as a home base for their bunk. Due to the nature of the position, Senior Counselors must be able to be on their feet for most of the day. They must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 20 pounds.  Senior Counselors must have the ability to be outside and handle Austin summer heat.  
• This position is a seasonal full-time position. The expected hours are from 8AM-4PM Monday through Friday, with opportunities to work until 5:30. Seasonal work begins with the first day of orientation on May 31 and goes through July 31 with opportunities to work through August 14. Hours are subject to change based on the camp’s needs.
