Job Description

Visa is seeking a seasoned and forward‑thinking engineering leader to head our Open Banking Technology organization. As open banking rapidly expands, Visa is investing heavily across payments, data, risk solutions, and AI‑driven innovation—and this role is central to shaping that future.

In this position, you will lead a 200+ person engineering team distributed across multiple global locations, driving the strategy, delivery, and scale of Visa’s next‑generation Open Banking products. You will play a key role in expanding into new markets, strengthening product quality and security, and accelerating innovation across the portfolio. Partnering closely with product, business, and executive teams, you will help define and deliver the next phase of Visa’s open banking growth journey.

As Vice President of Engineering, you will be a key leader in our organization—chartered to infuse next‑generation thinking into product development practices, anticipate and leverage emerging technologies for strategic advantage, and drive innovation initiatives to deliver a highly differentiated product offering to our clients. You will also champion an AI‑first mindset, ensuring that machine learning, large language models, automation, and intelligent developer tooling are deeply embedded into how we design platforms, build products, and operate at global scale.

Essential Functions:

  • Strategic & Technology Leadership for Open Banking
Define the long‑term business and technology strategy for the Open Banking vertical, aligning platform vision, product roadmap, and enterprise objectives.
  • End‑to‑End Product & Platform Ownership
Lead planning, architecture, and delivery of all Open Banking roadmap commitments, ensuring platforms are highly scalable, secure, and compliant.
  • Large‑Scale Engineering Leadership & Talent Development
Oversee a global 200+ engineering organization, recruit top leaders, cultivate an AI‑first, high‑performance culture with strong mentoring, coaching, and technical excellence.
  • Engineering Excellence, Quality, and Operational Integrity
Champion rigorous engineering practices, continuous improvement, and best‑in‑class security, reliability, and compliance across all systems.
  • Culture of Accountability, Innovation & Modernization
Foster ownership, empowerment, and sustained innovation while driving modernization toward cloud‑native, real‑time, AI‑ready platforms and data foundations.
  • AI Strategy, Client Solutions Innovation & LLM Integration
Develop and execute an enterprise AI strategy that enhances client solutions (fraud detection, risk insights, personalization). Deliver high‑value ML/LLM use cases—including support automation and intelligent payment workflows.
  • Developer Productivity & AI‑Enhanced Engineering Practices
Accelerate engineering velocity and quality through adoption of AI‑powered developer tools, intelligent CI/CD, and modern engineering best practices.
  • Cloud AI Services & Scalable Platform Architecture
Define and govern cloud AI architecture using AWS/GCP/Azure services, vector databases, and real‑time inference systems optimized for scale, cost, and compliance.
  • Executive, Board, and Regulatory Representation
Represent technology in board‑level discussions, regulatory reviews, and executive forums, articulating strategy, risk posture, and platform outcomes.

Qualifications

•12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/ MBA/JD/MD) or at least 8 years of work experience with a PhD
•Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a STEM field, with advanced coursework or specialization in AI, machine learning, or data driven systems preferred.
•15+ years of relevant experience, including 10+ years of technical leadership and 10+ years of people management leading large, distributed global engineering teams.
•Proven leadership of 200+ global engineers across multiple time zones and cultures, with experience scaling complex organizations and AI focused teams.
•Expertise in designing and engineering highly available, secure, scalable platforms, including systems that support real time AI/ML workloads and data intensive operations.
•Hands on experience implementing cloud native architectures, modern design patterns, and cloud based AI/ML services (AWS, GCP, Azure).
•Strong command of core engineering best practices, SDLC, and modern DevOps/MLOps practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, model deployment, observability, and drift monitoring.
•Experience leading AI, ML, or LLM driven product development, including model lifecycle management, applied machine learning, and integration of large language models into enterprise platforms.
•Demonstrated ability to drive adoption of innovative and AI enhanced technologies, including developer productivity tools (AI coding assistants, intelligent quality tools, automated pipelines).
•Experience in Agile product development and matrixed organizations, with the ability to drive alignment across engineering, data, AI research, product, and risk stakeholders.
•Proven change management skills, especially in modernizing legacy systems, transitioning to cloud native and AI ready architectures, and transforming engineering organizations with an AI first mindset.
•Ability to establish a highly collaborative, high performance, innovative culture that encourages ownership, experimentation, responsible AI use, and continuous improvement.
•Exceptional analytical reasoning, creativity, and judgment, with the ability to balance strategic thinking and hands on technical depth—especially when navigating complex AI related initiatives.
•Track record of recruiting, growing, and retaining high caliber engineering and AI/ML talent, and building strong leadership pipelines.
•Excellent communication and executive level influence skills, including the ability to simplify complex AI concepts for business, regulatory, and board audiences.
•Success operating in both large global enterprises and high growth environments, with deep knowledge of financial services, payments, and Open Banking strongly preferred.
