Project Engineer - Electrical -266709

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Project Engineer – Electrical to join the team delivering the Muchea BESS project. In this role, you will provide both conceptual and detailed engineering support across HV substations, battery systems, solar interfaces, and electrical balance-of-plant components.

Your primary focus will be ensuring the project is delivered safely, efficiently, and in line with all contractual, technical, schedule, and cost requirements. This position suits an engineer who thrives in a dynamic environment and enjoys working collaboratively across engineering, construction, quality, and commercial interfaces.

 

Key Responsibilities

Technical & Engineering

  • Plan and conduct professional electrical engineering work with minimal supervision.
  • Provide specialist technical advice, recommendations, and solutions.
  • Coordinate and supervise multi‑discipline design activities and manage technical interfaces.
  • Assist with constructability reviews and forecasting for project works.
  • Prepare ITPs, work packs, and oversee electrical installation packages.
  • Review, check, and sign off electrical works, inspection records, and test sheets.
  • Support commissioning teams and troubleshoot engineering issues on site.
  • Liaise with design consultants, detailers, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Ensure technical clarity around project deliverables and client contractual requirements.
  • Manage project scope, tracking changes, cost impacts, and reporting to project leadership.
  • Work with project planning teams to ensure schedule accuracy and progress visibility.
  • Assist with procurement, quality documentation, material coordination, and documentation control.
  • Support monthly client reporting, internal reporting, and ad‑hoc engineering tasks.

Safety

  • Demonstrate safe work practices in all responsibilities.
  • Ensure safe working conditions for all employees, contractors, and visitors.
  • Participate in daily pre-start meetings and use appropriate PPE.
  • Complete risk assessments, JSAs, and pre-work checklists.
  • Report hazards and incidents and contribute to safety improvements.
  • Support safety inputs for tenders, proposals, and formal reports.

General & Compliance

  • Participate in site inductions and ongoing learning opportunities.
  • Maintain tidy, organised, and safe work areas.
  • Ensure compliance with all UGL systems, processes, policies, and procedures, including:
    • Code of Conduct
    • People & Culture, EEO, Bullying & Harassment
    • Health, Safety & Environment
    • IT and data security
  • Proactively look for ways to improve systems, processes, and engineering outputs.

 

About You

Qualifications

  • Tertiary qualification in Electrical Engineering (or related discipline).

Experience & Skills

  • Strong experience in HV electrical systems, substations, or large‑scale energy projects.
  • Proven capability supervising technical staff and working in a design‑for‑construction environment.
  • Project engineering experience across schedule, cost, quality, and technical deliverables.
  • Experience working with subcontractors, suppliers, and construction teams.
  • Strong understanding of HV power systems, commissioning, and electrical BOP.
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and leadership skills.
