Pennant Hills, Australia

Are you a current Y NSW team member and an undergrad student looking for real‑world experience that actually connects to your degree? This is your moment to transform your career trajectory!

We're launching an exclusive 6‑month internship that will give three employees unprecedented access to the inner workings of one of NSW's most impactful youth organisations. This isn't just another internship – it's your gateway to understanding how real change happens.

You'll work across these dynamic areas:

  • 🗣 Advocacy – help us champion young people and communities
  • 📈 Strategy – see how our big decisions are made and measured
  • 🤝 People & Culture (P&C) – learn how we support, develop and engage our people
  • 🔐 Risk – get behind the scenes on safety, compliance and innovation
  • 📊 Operations – Business Delivery Support – see how we turn strategy into action across NSW

🚀 What you'll get out of it

  • Hands‑on project work linked to your studies
  • Shadowing opportunities with SME, functional leads and senior managers
  • Experience working on cross‑functional projects that impact our centres and communities
  • A stronger understanding of how decisions are made at an organisational level
  • A list of achievements and professional networks to include in your resume and LinkedIn profile
  • Potential opportunities for future work at the Y

👀 Who this will really suit

This opportunity is designed with younger emerging leaders in mind – especially those around 18–23 – but all eligible undergrad students are welcome to apply. You're a great fit if you:

  • Are a current Y NSW employee (casual, part‑time or full‑time)
  • Are currently completing an undergraduate degree (e.g. Business, HR, Commerce, Law, Social Sciences, Data/Analytics, Risk, Public Policy, etc.)
  • Are curious about how a large not‑for‑profit / youth organisation works behind the scenes
  • Want to build a career in areas like strategy, people & culture, operations, advocacy, risk or transformation
  • Are keen to learn, ask questions and get involved in project work

✅ Key details

  • 🕒 Duration: 6 months
  • 💸 Type: Unpaid learning and development opportunity
  • 🌐 Location: Mix of remote and office‑based work (depending on project needs)
  • 👥 Eligibility: Internal Y NSW staff only
  • 📚 Study friendly: Designed to fit around your studies and current role (to be agreed with your manager)

ℹ️ This is an additional development opportunity, not a replacement for your paid role. Please talk with your manager about how you could balance internship hours with your roster and study commitments.

💬 Our commitment to inclusion

At the Y NSW, we're committed to creating a workplace where everyone belongs. We strongly encourage EOIs from all current staff, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, LGBTQIA+ staff, and people with disability or lived experience of marginalisation. If you need any adjustments to participate in the internship or selection process, please let us know – we'll work with you to make it accessible.
