Job Title: Waste Area Attendant 

Reporting to the Site Maintenance Manager, the Waste Area Attendant is responsible for supporting effective waste management practices at the Eskay Creek site by overseeing waste management areas, enforcing waste segregation requirements, and assisting site personnel and contractors in complying with waste management procedures and permit conditions. This role is critical to maintaining environmental compliance, site cleanliness, and operational efficiency during a period of increased site activity. 

 

Responsibilities (including but not limited to): 

  • Oversee the waste management sorting area to ensure bins are used correctly and materials are properly segregated 

  • Monitor and maintain the hazardous waste area to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations

  • Serve as the main point of contact for waste bin switch-outs, emptying, and replacement

  • Assist site labourers with garbage collection across the site and with the operation of the incinerator

  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of all waste-related areas

  • Report issues, non-compliance, or required improvements to site supervision

  • All other duties as reasonably assigned 

 

The Ideal Candidate 

Education / Qualifications: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred 

  • Environmental, waste management, or site services training is considered an asset 

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence 

 

Experience / Skills  

  • 2+ year experience in waste management, environmental services, site services, or industrial/mining environments 

  • Knowledge of waste segregation practices and environmental compliance is preferred 

  • Detail-oriented with strong attention to waste sorting and compliance requirements 

  • Comfortable interacting with site personnel and contractors to enforce rules respectfully and consistently 

  • Demonstrates accountability and sound judgment 

  • Effective team player with the ability to work independently 

  • Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills 

  • Highly self-motivated and adaptable in a fast-paced site environment 

 

Work Location & Conditions 

This is a site-based camp job at Eskay Creek Mine site. This position involves working at a remote mine site on 15 days on/13 days off rotation.       

  

The Eskay Creek Revitalization Project is located within the Coast Mountains of Northwestern British Columbia and Tahltan Territory. Ground transportation will be provided from local communities to the Eskay Creek Site facilities. For those applicants located elsewhere in western Canada, flight transportation from major urban centers will be provided to the Terrace or Smithers airports, from which shuttles will provide transportation to the Eskay Creek Camp facilities. Travel time and expenses are subject to Skeena’s Travel Policy.      

  

There will be exposure to extreme temperatures in all seasons including working outdoors in snow, mud, ice, and water conditions, walking to and from different locations on uneven ground, prolonged periods of standing and physically handling/lifting/moving heavy objects.       

Compensation 
The expected hourly rate for this position is CAD $34, in line with the competitive job market for such roles carried out in British Columbia. Salary ranges are guidelines and any job offer received by a candidate will be determined on a number of factors such as relevant education, training, and/or experience.
