Description
The Fourth Judicial District Court welcomes applications for the position of Accountant II. This is a supervisory position overseeing two accounting team members, that focuses on all accounts receivable activities and business expense activities. This position collaborates with Fourth District lead workers, supervisors and managers, judicial officers, partners, and customers, and reports to the 4th District Accounting Manager.

This role is a hybrid work arrangement – completing necessary functions onsite at the Hennepin County Government Center in downtown Minneapolis, at other district court buildings, and remotely. Typical hours for this position are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday-Friday, but will vary depending on business needs.

Examples of Duties

  • Supervise, plan, coordinate, and review the functions and daily operations of two personnel in the accounting receivable unit
  • Oversee and support the full cycle of Accounts Receivables, including MNCIS month-end preparation, reconciliation of accounts, incoming and distribution of revenue, monitoring bank accounts, Business Expense reimbursements, Special Expense forms, etc.
  • Maintain accounts receivable files and records
  • Produce monthly financial and management reports 
  • Select, coach, mentor, develop and evaluate the performance of staff according to set standards; act as an effective role model to staff in all areas; assist in developing orientation, training programs and reference documentation for employees.
  • Audit, analyze, reconcile, and verify the accuracy of accounting records; ascertain those records and accounting procedures meet local and state guidelines and requirements
  • Respond to and manage day-to-day inquiries brought by management, staff, and related county and/or state agencies to ensure appropriate resources are provided for court operations
  • Represent the Fourth District on state/court-wide committees and workgroups to ensure consistent business practices across the judicial branch
  • Serve as back-up, when needed, for accounting payable work

Typical Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:
Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below. 

Examples of acceptable qualifications for this position are:

  • Six years of post-high school education and/or experience, including a minimum of two years’ experience performing accounting work
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university plus two years' experience in accounting or finance
  • A high school degree and six years’ experience in accounting or finance

    AND

  • Leadership experience including coaching and developing staff
  • This position will be working partially remotely, access to reliable internet connection is required

Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Skilled in effective staff and team building and/or supervising the work of others to meet the needs of the division
  • Knowledge of accounting and financial principles, practices, and procedures
  • Knowledge of and experience with accounting software
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Ability to learn new technology
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of the organization and external customers
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and use discretion in applying and interpreting policies, procedures, and guidelines
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in governmental accounting, court system, Minnesota Court Information System (MNCIS), Statewide Integrated Financial Tools (SWIFT) system, Business Expense System (BES, and SEMA4
  • Experience training others in policy, procedures, or practices

Supplemental Information

The anticipated starting salary range for external candidates is $34.40 (range minimum) - $43.83 (range midpoint) per hour ($71,827.00 - $91,517.00 annually).  

The full salary range for this position is $34.40 (range minimum) - $53.25 (range maximum) per hour ($71,827.00 - $111,186.00 annually). This position is exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act and is eligible for State of MN employee benefits.
